Does abandoned boats similar to the one in California. Local government does not want to take responsibility for removing those boats because it will be up to them to have them destroyed or recycled and they don't want that cost. They keep going back and forth as to who should remove them. I think they should just run the registration numbers and fine the owners of the boat until they have them removed

Alfred, my recollection is the ship channel is open to recreational vessels as long as there are no more that two cruise ships in Port. You must stay 200 yards off the ships. I haven't run through there in a while but thats what I remember. As far as illegal charter boats. It's a problem in Miami. For every one boat they take out you have two new ones the following week. They (illegal ones) are a real nuisance and most have no idea what they are doing. Things should taper down now that the government stopped paying people to not work.

About the derelict boats. I started in 2005 as dispatcher for FWC law enforcement. We worked on this problem since then. Will need legislative effort. Boat sinks. Owner files insurance claim, Just like a car, the boat is totaled by insurance company. Owner signs the boat over to ins. company and they both just walk away leaving it to government to remove. Fla. has spent $millions of off budget money on this. Needs to change! Either owner or ins. company needs handle removal.

Passing through about a month ago I stayed the night at the anchorage by Rickenbacker marina and the rusty pelican. Huge mistake! It was a Thursday night and people were playing Hispanic music as loud as it would go until 3am. Beautiful views but it doesn’t come with peace and quite. In addition, one of the many jet skis racing around hit a boat. It’s a real chit show over there.

Just because someone can afford a 40 million dollar house doesn’t mean they own the water. If they want privacy, they should have bought an island somewhere
@302Camaro3 жыл бұрын
That is correct! They can call the cops all they want but the law allows the boats to anchor right off those houses.
@zodiackeeler91693 жыл бұрын
100 percent they paid 40 million for the house good for them, the water is public and should always be able to be enjoyed by everyone, if they wanted privacy quit buying giant houses on public water showing off your money, buy land and put your house in middle of it mf think they own everything

Interesting all those waterfront homes, no boats. Same thing here. Multi multi million dollar homes and no boats. In the one harbor area I'm speaking of it's mostly Asians buying in and I guess they're not into boating. Strange to see on the water homes with slips and no boats. Newport harbor with bazillion dollar homes is loaded with boats. Use to have sucked boats everywhere because of seals and a law you can't disturb them. More Frick end seal than seagulls. The people got together and used environmental groups against each other stating the seals sinking boats is polluting the waters and they should all be removed at the owners expenses. Done. Half if not most belonged to people nolonger alive.
