FYI. Right around the swing bridges and cut entrances are fueling docs. Pull in at around dark and they will be closed. Tie up at the pump and you can sleep there until they open. Then get some ice or whatever and go on to the next one. It is fun.

Made trip many times back and forth for customers. I have to say this, as a 100 ton master of oceans captain. I have never once left the pilot house under power, nor would even think of going out on deck solo handling the boat with out an inflatable vest. It’s real nice you making the trip. Situations can certainly go south in a heartbeat. It’s all about safety. Good luck

So sailing is out of the question Captain? Last I knew, US Navy Sailor here btw, when solo sailing one keeps a 2 hour sleep schedule to get through the trip. It would be impossible otherwise. With radar and all the warning systems, a small vessel is perfectly safe with no one at the helm out in open water, with sailing it is required for the smallest task often as well as the more important ones.

@@JSabh simple: if you are solo, on deck wear a PFD and appropriate deck shoes. I never leave the helm unattended. Throw it in Neutral. Retired Mastrr after 51 years with an excellent safety record. If you wanna sleep, helm unattended, have at it. Not me moving someone else’s yacht to and from NY to Florida. Pretty sure my customers would like me to be awake while the boats moving… but, that’s just me

My mother was Miss Maine for the Miss America Pageant back in the day! She dropped out to marry my Father! He drove from Ohio to maine to get her! They have both passed away recently..I want to drive to Maine for a small Vacation sometime. Its on my Bucket list!!! Can't say how much I enjoyed your Adventure!! I ve done alot in life only being 56. I've been an Actor for 30yrs and worked for Eminem in music videos and Michael Bay/ Spielberg in The Island movie both as a cop! Been in Superbowl Commercials for Bud light! Among tons of other projects in Acting and Professional Model..I also spent my entire life Racing Bmx all over the Country from 1978 at 11 yrs old to 2016!! As a kid in the 60s I lived close to the old Hatteras plant in High Point NC I would ride my bike over to the factory about every day and just stare at the beautiful boats . You are living out my dream.

My very first day on the boat was the beginning of an 11 day trip back to New Bern NC. Your video brought back so many memories of that trip thanks for sharing. Wow! Epic voyage! A bit hairy going overnight from Norfolk to NYC in fog, single-handed but glad no major issues. You managed the whole thing very competently, that boat is a lot to handle by yourself, especially without a bow thruster. Well done. What a terrific feeling to return to Maine after your great trip south in the Albin, living the good life in Florida, returning to Maine in a big, handsome Hatteras. Looking forward to hearing about how the summer went in Maine.

I had a 50 foot Stevens, triple cabin motor yacht built in 1966 with twin V8 diesels. I’ll give you props for handling your boat single-handed but as you know these things are remarkably maneuverable with twin screws. Have fun I’m enjoying watching your travels.

Brought back great memories i had a friend in 1984 who bought the identical yacht , we lived in CT flew down to Pier 66 in FT Lauderdale we were inside and when the weather cooperated ran outside, made it to CT in 5 days no problems as the yacht was only a few years old at purchase, had some wild times the next few summers in Newport and Nantucket stay safe great content !!!!

I am a lifelong resident of Dare county and worked in the custom sport fish industry in wanchese for nearly every boat builder. I know exactly how harrowing Oregon Inlet can be. But your video from Beaufort to Adams Creek pass Maul Point at the confluence of the Neuse and Bay River past RE Mayo and USCG station hobucken is a stretch I am intimately familiar with. So I can totally relate to the beating you were taking in the smaller Albin in your previous video. The most scared and the most praying I have done in any boat was near Maul Point in February 2002. I was making a solo trip from Hobucken to Atlantic Beach via Adams Creek in a 25' Parker. If I recall it was a hard NW with the typical confused Sea state. I had family and a young lady waiting for me in Atlantic Beach and I was determined to complete the trip. It was a trip I was familiar with under all conditions day or night. But it got the best of me on that fateful day. When the impact of the top of my head collided with the cabin ceiling so many times my vision was being affected by blood dripping down my face I had no choice. It was so hairy bringing her back around, abandoning my course, putting her bow in the wind. Long story short I thanked the good Lord above and held my girl tight when I finally made it to her. Thank you for bringing it all back to me.

In 1968 my father had a 32 foot mahogany cabin cruiser. We spent the whole summer on it. My mom will take care of as my father would leave for work from the boat. He had a slip on the Long Island side of the sound. I got 8 mm reel to reel of me and my sister is playing on the boat while my dad was flying through the sound memories memories soon I’ll be a memory.

What a great trip reminds me of my trip through Cape Cod channel last year on a 58’ Viking. What a blast! Would do again tomorrow if I could. As a note the Viking had two 1100 hp Detroit diesels and burned 38 GPH each at 21 knots.

I noticed a little discolor on wood trim around front windshield. Seal them up, along with the 1000 other things on THE LIST. Well done. Life line on deck with a harness is an absolute rule you set and don't ever break.

I live in Newport News Virginia but I'm all over the areas you were traversing. I must say it is really cool seeing the bridges and other stuff I drive over everyday from a different perspective. If I had the money I would personally get a norhaven or some other type of twin screw steel hull trawler style yatch. However a Retro or Classic that you Rescued/ Revived back to life Despite the age or condition, Old school is true tried tested and Get you home Reliable. I would rock that boat man. Always enjoy your travels, since you pass by many place I am familiar with. First when coming out of Beaufort NC, parent’s retirement home was right on the ICW, then passing the by the York river where I spent my childhood. My dad was a Marine biologist work for the state of Virginia and I spent a lot of time on the water. And block Island and I spent time at in Quonset Pt RI in the Navy. Take care on your next trip!

Super video. I made the trip several times on a 1973 53' Hatteras during the 1980's. I was in my 20s working as a delivery captain. Loran C, charts, radar and a watch. A couple over night ocean runs, but not alone. Good for you. Lots of great stories and memories. Seeing the places you were at like Coinjock, Alligator River, etc. you will never forget as I won't either. Keep it going.

About the exhaust, we had the same issue. Ours fell off completely and we had to shut down that engine. I found a mobile welder and actually had to carry that big heavy thing through a resort in Cape Coral Florida. Got yelled at by the locals for doing so but we did get it fixed in one afternoon fyi. Love the videos. Great job.

I ran most of the trip at 1200-1300RPM, 8-8.5kts through the water. I burned around 1100 Gallons. The whole fuel bill ended up being $4200. I am burning around 5GPH. Not quite as good as the Albin, but for being twice the weight, not bad! Thanks for watching!

Gus-aren’t you supposed to be running those engines at like 1800-1900 rpm for long term cruising? I thought these diesels are best run long term at 50-60% of full rpm. Love your videos.

PART TWO: I just realized you did this video in May, of 2023. I am watching it now, May 3, 2024! I am definitely going to watch the rest of your videos! Side Note: Since you mentioned you had to jump in the water to get your dingy that got loose, I had to jump in, at the back of the yacht, and swim after a small motor boat that had gotten loose, as we were cruising at night, slowly, along the north coast of Dominican Republic. It was quite an experience for me, as I grabbed the boat, jumped in, started the motor, and caught up with the yacht! Joe

Hey man, great videos. I had a similar experience with a 1968 Pacemaker 36' single screw. Not quite as an extensive trip as yours but man, what a pig that boat was. All wood and she floated just because.. well, because wood floats lol. Keep the videos coming and good luck with that boat. She's a beauty.

So when in LI Sound, entering Port Jeff Harbor on the left right away is the Cove also known as Pirates Cove. Beautiful safe spot to anchor and you could fill up or whatever you need right in Port Jefferson before you leave. Perfect really.

Nice work. The turbo repair was crafty and sketchy at the same time. Hope there is a follow up. Get a 10 yr battery smoke and CO monitor detector. Residential style works great. Put it by the engine access hatches. Will keep you safe for $40.
