I agree. The colors, the architecture, in general was just so contemporary and ground breaking for the time. This show, looking back, had some ok acting (later episodes suffered from bad acting and stories), but the "look" was like nothing else before or after.
@gluserty10 жыл бұрын
John Malcolm When it comes to the acting, the show had some guest stars (unlike a Bruce Willis or a John Glover) that weren't really actors, just there for effect (Captain Lou Albano, Seena Easton, and James Brown, who probably was the weakest). Overall though, there was A LOT of future talent when it came to guest stars (Julia Roberts, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock), even in later episodes.

In the fall of 1984, I was in an L shaped Apartment, in the suburbs of Philadelphia, in the music room, a second bedroom, my wife allowed me to clutter with records, tapes, and stereo equipment. I could hear the TV she was watching- a VERY familiar keyboard sound was eliminating from the set." THAT.....sounds like JAN HANMER on TV!" I dropped everthing and dashed into the living room, and joined the wife who was watching the season premier of, "MIAMI VICE!" Sure enough, one of my keyboard heroes, JAN HAMMER, was the rhythm the pulse, the scene intro setter, to the world of Miami Vice!" As IZZY once proclaimed, "JHEW GOT IT, MAIHN !!!"

I really wish they would have done a really good 30-year anniversary show for Miami Vice and really showcased the series. So many people still absolutely adore this show and it's just so odd to me how they tend to just ignore the huge fanbase Vice still has even today. It's damn near 2015 now and people everywhere still can't get enough of Vice on a global scale, and I really would have thought maybe even Universal would have wanted to do a well put-together show of the series since Vice still has such a huge following after all this time. Instead we get a five-minute bump from the local paper, and although I'm thankful at least for that, it's disappointing that after 30 years this is all we get :(
@ComputerLearning010 жыл бұрын
That said, I extend a big thank you to the Miami Herald for the piece you did on what was THE best television show of the 1980's... a show that helped revitalize Miami in a time when things we're so good. Mike Hawk Hi Mike, I totally agree to your comments and like yourself always hope that it would make come back 30 years later. Im watching the Miami vice reruns on dvd to mark 1985 release in Ireland at the moment. U have to remember that the show was by itself unique but stuck in a Paradigm of the mid to late 80s with the fashions and the music that went with it. This is why the show only lasted for only 5 seasons which was good considering that its popularity dropped off after 1987. Crockett and Tubbs at this time were viewed as a pair of posers....HA HA! The show was becoming more detective than entertaining. As the 1990s approached the world moved on with different fashions, tv cop shows and Techno music styles to suit people new tastes. I think Don Johnson felt this too and jacked it in for other interests. Also not sure if the 2006 film did it much justice either. That being said May it live on! Patrick.
@ComputerLearning09 жыл бұрын
PiggyWiggyO Personally I think the 2006 movie turned away a lot of *Vice* fans because they were maybe hoping (I was one of them) that we might see the original people cast in some form or another but what we got was something very different from what all the true fans may have thought it was going to be. I know the show's popularity really fell off after about season three, as the show took on a completely different look and overall vibe. As much as I adored the show, I must admit even I became disillusioned after the 'alien' episode, Miracle Man and the like. By then the writing was just plain ridiculous and *Vice* was a completely different animal. Fans dropped off and the show ended. The internet was in it's infancy and sometime later fan group forums appeared on the web and has since grown over the years where people can talk about and share experienced with the greatest TV show of the 80's and today. I read on miamiviceonline.com that Don Johnson had recently expressed real interest in "rebooting" the show in some form. Don't know if anything will some of it but I sure hope so. Clearly the original characters wouldn't be doing the same things they were doing 29 years ago when the show ended but they could include them in any number of creative ways. We'll see...

Love it-Miami Vice. One of the top 80's television shows and of all time in my opinion. Also, along with Magnum P.I., A-Team, Hunter, 21 Jump street, LA Law, Simon and Simon, Fantasy Island, Threes Company, Dukes of Hazard, What's Happening, Joanie Loves Chachie, Too Close For Comfort, Scarface, Fast time at Ridgemont High, Valley girl, Mtv(when it was good-the 80's), The Goonies, 80's cartoons/animation, Mash, Knightrider, etc., some of these shows may have started in the previous decade but continued into the 80s though. It would've been nice to be and live in Miami/Miami Beach back then, at least, in a nice , safe part of that area anyways. Love and miss the 80's and that decade/genre. 80's always and forever.

What most people either don't know or don't remember is, Miami Vice actually premiered THREE times. My Dad died Dec.2nd,1984 and we saw the pilot episode all 3 times.The 1980's were the most magical times (at least in American history) because everything was looking up, even when things were "bad", they were still better than before or since. On Fridays, the streets and EVERYWHERE became empty about 8pm because people were home watching Miami Vice, after the show was over the "world" came alive again and there isn't a single show now or since with that kind of impact.

I found the whole series in DVD at my local Walmart and I’m re-watching now. Best show ever!

Wife and I enjoy the deco hotels, A1A, the beach, the era music. We had a room at the Victor over a decade ago.The experience of walking into the Victor from out in the sun is surreal. They had a fish tank with mini jellyfish illuminated by blacklight. There is an Irish bar up the street. I had Jan Hammer music in my head.

I was 15 when this came out. Loved it. Cool cops, touch cars, chases, skimpy dressed girls. That intro. Man the days.

I will never forget Sondra. She had the softest skin of any woman I have ever felt and she was really a Sweetheart.I worked security for the show for a few days and when I met her it was not as if she was a stranger at all.It was a pleasure sitting between her and Edward under the catering tent have lunch one of those days.Both of them were very down to earth Real People and they left me with great memories as if we were friends and not just passing in life though after those few days we have never met again since soon afterwards I moved from Miami back to North Florida where I grew up and still live today.
