This is one of my favorites. I really wish they'd done more like this with Castillo.

this was the episode that solidified badass CASTILLO and garnered EDWARD JAMES OLMOS an Emmy award.

You said: “Miami Vice is at its very best when it teeters on that line between the everyday and the level of exoticism that borders on the surreal." I say: "You nailed it!" That is the most succint description of Miami Vice I've ever heard.

Great episode I watched many,many times. By the way Edward James Olmos looks looked like a model in the speedo. Very GOOD !!!! THIS WAS HIS AND HIS ALONE TIME TO SHINE !!!!

Yay, first 5 flamingo rated episode(s)! I remember watching this for the first time a couple of years ago and being quite impressed with the Castillo character. Can't wait for your review of Smuggler's Blues, fantastic episode!!!

I often come back and listen to a random episode review of Miami VIce. Without getting too sappy, I have to say, there is something just so beautifully 80's about Miami Vice - it captures that materialistic, slace to fashion and status and $$$$ that is so undeniable!

I watched Miami Vice all the way through, then started watching Mayans M.C., and had to come back to watch Edward James Olmos in what is showing on Tubi as #15 in season 1, just to see his incredibleness in the Speedo - Luckily I can rewind and rewatch it over and over and over... Of all the cast he was my favorite, strong, mainly silent, and with those superhuman powers... Ooh, La-la. I cannot believe I never saw this series in the '80s - those were the days I would have been out dancing all night at the discos in South Florida, myself. (I am now 70-71 in mid-September). Thank you for your wonderful series, you are teaching me so much I did not know about the era I lived through in a parallel life. I have not been able to find the episode about Evan, although he did appear briefly in one other episode; I cannot remember which.

Edward James Olmos continues to impress me in Miami Vice. He's fine in Battlestar and Blade Runner, but here he's an absolute MVP.

Just discovering your wonderful series of episode summaries as I rewatch the series in order from the beginning. Really enjoying them. Maybe there's more attention to this in later videos, but while there's a lot of discussion of the brilliant (and for the time, groundbreaking) use of contemporary pop music in the show, I think not enough credit is given to the brilliance of Jan Hammer's (who by this time was a veteran of groups like Jeff Beck's and Mahavishnu Orchestra) underscoring which , the pop tunes not withstanding, still constitutes at least 50% of what's going on musically in these shows. The atmosphere of this show would not be the same without his contribution. A great example comes in this episode, a seemingly throwaway scene of Tubbs & Castillo canvassing various Thai restaurants...an awesome groove with asymmetrical 5-bar phrase lengths...completely unlike cop-show music that had existed before, or even since, really! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYKWcmpjrp6NsKssi=PCFTfCXhxTDNuhKJ

Near-supernatural abilities. Kind of reminds me of the IMDB description of Happy Days, where they describe Fonzie as being "near-superhuman" LOL. they're right and you're right about Marty. Yes, the song choices were interesting. A lot of oldies.

They weren't really so "oldies" in the '80s!

Which Season is your favorite? Season 1 or 2?!

Season two by the slimmest of margins -- season one is also excellent!

@@MorganRichter Ok I prefer Season 1 but Season 2 is excellent too. What are your top 5 favorite episodes? I know #1 for you is Evan. May you do a top 10-20 best/favorite episodes of Miami Vice?
@MorganRichter3 жыл бұрын
@@clarissawestbrook2203 My easy top three would be Evan, Out Where the Buses Don't Run, and Definitely Miami, and then after that I have a bunch in strong contention for the list. In my look at the finale, Freefall, I gave my top ten episodes, in no particular order. There are too many great episodes to choose from!
@clarissawestbrook22033 жыл бұрын
@@MorganRichter Ok and yes there are just based on how strong the first two seasons are alone. My top 5 are My Brother's Keeper/Pilot, Carelone's Returns Parts 1 and 2, The Maze, The Home Invaders and Sons and Lovers. An honorable mention at #6 is Milk Run.

I'm rewatching the whole series before I go back to college in August. I'm on Season 2 now and will watch Season 3. I know Seasons 4 and 5 are mediocre to weak but with a few good episodes. Should I watch Seasons 4 or 5 or just stop after the end of Season 3?
