Zito's death was one of these unexpected moments in Miami Vice.

There was and there will NEVER be a series like Miami Vice again! It was so perfect! This scene is so sad and with the absolutely brilliant selection of music throughout the whole series, it was really awesome!
@aspe7187 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. It was just different from everything else. You never knew what you were going to get. To this day, no man or woman alive who grew up in the 80s can hear “In The Air Tonight” and not think about Miami Vice.

No one puts score and scene together like Michael Mann! The best ever at it. Not only MV, but his movies! Manhunter, Heat, Last of the Mohicans, etc. The music makes the movies and vice versa. Dude is a savant when it comes to this stuff!
@BULL.1733 жыл бұрын
This is really some A+ acting. It’s so sad but his reaction is so nuanced it fascinates me. Overt expressions of grief or anger are momentarily shelved in favor of the higher priority. He loves Zito and has to hold onto him for a little bit. Everything else can wait for just a little while.

Honestly, Michael Talbott deserved an Emmy for this scene.

One of the saddest moments in tv history (my opinion of course).

One of the most powerful moments. What is so sad is that the series sucked the last few seasons - I eventually quit watching - after this character was eliminated. The comedic and familial dimensions were never as rich.
@alainvosselman99603 жыл бұрын
I'd agree on that. Mainly because of its simplicity. No need for additional drama, it's just there kicking you in the face..

This episode is the best together with the 1st episode where Rico Tubbs' brother is murdered and his girlfriend gets blown up in the car. All 3 episodes were the best of Miami Vice. Truly emotional.

This moment at least(can’t remember enough about the rest of the episode) is probably in the top 5 for series. It’s up there with Evan. These guys were MAYBE even closer than Crockett and Tubbs as they seemed to hang out on their days off.

They could have at least gave Zito a transfer to another department or something. They killed him off for ratings and the show still tanked. Now he can't come back even if they did a reboot.
@RedhairedCrow3 жыл бұрын
LUL Not sure where or how you formed the opinion it tanked after this episode or season, but seasons 4 and 5 are critically considered to be the best of the series. As for a reboot, this was groundbreaking in the 80s. I was there, watched it as a teen. It defined the 80s. TV and film needs to stop rebooting, and make series and movies from the tons of creative geniuses RIGHT NOW. Be unique for change, instead of incessant derivative laziness. In life, in films, too many people are like that now.

@Evan-tj1te3 жыл бұрын
John Deil asked to be killed off, because he wanted to pursue a movie career which, ironically, went nowhere. He knew if they simply transferred Zito they would try to bring him back now and then, which he didn't want, as he felt it would interfere with his much anticipated movie career (he didn't want to be typecast as Zito).
