@@mysticmoons5305 it depends on a lot of things: 1) has your vet told you what region of the spine your dog has an extrusion in? have you had an MRI scan done? 2) how much function does your dog still have? can your dog walk normally? is your dog paralysed? 3) have you seen a veterinary neurologist? In general for IVDD cases, the material inbetween vertebrae is extruded into the spinal canal, impinging it and causing pain and potentially more (e.g paralysis). If you get your dog a chiropractic adjustment for the area of the extrusion you potentially risk squeezing even more material out into the spinal canal. This means if your dog isn't already paralysed, they might be at greater risk of losing motor function. SO please, avoid chiropractors in humans and in animals, there is so little evidence supporting its efficacy and the risks DO NOT EVEN COME CLOSE to outweighing the benefits. At best you get mild pain since the extruded material is being further compressed against the spinal cord. At worst, your dog is paralysed forever. You choose which you prefer.

@@mysticmoons5305 depends on a lot of things: 1) where is the extruded disc? has your vet been able to localise where it is? have you been to a veterinary neurologist to have an MRI or at least get them to assess the location and severity? 2) how much function does your dog still have? In dogs with IVDD, material from the nucleus pulposus (material between vertebra) is extruded into the spinal canal, impinging the canal. This causes pain and potentially a loss of motor function (struggling to walk or even paralysis) A chriopractic adjustment can potentially squeeze even more material into the spinal canal, and can potentially displace the already extruded material into other regions of the spine, causing even more pain and damage. Depending on the severity of your dog's IVDD, this may cause your dog to become even more painful or lose even more of their motor function. They could become paralysed and potentially lose so much nerve function that despite treatment (i.e surgery), they might not be able to regain their ability to walk. So please AVOID chiropractors, for humans and for animals. The risks dont even come close to outweighing the benefits.

@@WumaoAnnihilator Thank you so much for this information 💖 💖 yeh had scans done last week, it shown the injury was to her lower back lumbar, atm she is on pain killers and anti inflammatory drugs. Breaks my heart but have to cage her at night to prevent her from jumping on and off furniture. I did the Chiro consultation as advised by the vet but will definitely be cancelling now and finding a new Vet. My pup is a 4 Yr old Lab poodle, hopefully she will make a fully recovery too, thank you so much again for the insight. 🙏🏽

i just had this experience with my dog too.. a dog was off leash and attacked him, and he slipped a disk in his neck. first vet visit they gave us pain meds, didnt help. went back the next night and they admitted him did MRI and did surgery. Post op his pain was really bad too and we ended up having to take him back again to the vet.. he is finally on the mend. but yes definitely worse experience, and hearing them scream is very traumatizing. i know exactly how you feel. hope your dog recovers well!

If you can, get another perspective from different vets to see if the diagnosis align or see if there are different methods to alleviate the pain. but take the time to relax and figure shit out. Like you said, sometimes these setbacks are set in our way in order to accomplish bigger things down the road.
