I am fortunate enough that my wife was excellent at piloting the boat at slow speeds. She’d nose into the dock, I’d jump off without tying up. She’d loiter somewhere out of the way with the engine running. I’d grab the tow rig and trailer. She’d start toward the trailer as I was backing up. On a good day, the boat was hitting the trailer bunks 5 seconds after the trailer came to a stop. I’d hook the winch strap to the bow eye and tighten it up. She’d kill the engine and I’d pull the boat and trailer to the tie-down spot with her still on the boat. She’d already have the skis, tow ropes and PFDs stowed. We’d put the transom straps on and would be on the road in minutes. It was a beautiful thing.
