Edward James Olmos was so closely identified with this role that when he won an Emmy for it, the first thing he said in his acceptance speech was “Yes, Lt. Castillo does smile..”

The Golden Triangle is one of my top episodes! I recently watched Michael Mann's debut film, Thief, for the first time. I don't know why I hadn't seen it before. It was really great, and quite a few actors in that movie went on to be in episodes of Miami Vice, such as Dennis Farina and John Santucci, featured here in this clip, who plays a perfect scumbag.
@xevious2501 Жыл бұрын
Like Chris Nolan, Spike lee, Tarentino even Spielberg. these directors had a group of top actors that they consistently used in their film/tv projects. Mann certainly had his group. and later included those that best fit into his group. Miami Vice was a playground for fantastic actors up and coming. i remember, everyone and everyone mother wanted to get in on an episode of Vice.

The NBC Crime Story was a 1960s version of Miami Vice with actor Dennis Farina playing a tough Chicago IL cop 👮🏽♂️ who later becomes a federal narcotics Bureau agent(this was later called DEA). Crime Story only ran 3-4 seasons; 1986 to 1990 or so.
@goreds5518 ай бұрын
@@DavidLLambertmobileIt was two seasons only sadly. The final episode ended with a fight between Farina and Denison's character's inside a crashing airplane. We don't get to see what happens afterwards because the show was not continued after the second season.

The "Golden Triangle" episodes provide insight into Castillo's character, which up to that point had been very mysterious. Notably, Edward James Olmos does not speak in Castillo's normal mumbling voice, expresses anger when he tries to choke Menton, and even goes so far as to shout (albeit just a single word, "Wrong!") at Menton after the final confrontation.

nowadays tough guys in tv and movies they don't ring true, you arent intimidated by them, but Castillo was one of those guys who fitted the aura and mood of real tough guys you met in the street, a guy who commanded respect just by entering a room, and that goes beyond acting, you've gotta earn that in real life, which EJO obviously did.
