Personally, I like the first two seasons. The stories were amazing, the style was hip, and Jan Hammer was the man!

I agree. Some might even say there was a small, minor Shark jump when they blew up Crockett’s first ride.

Jan Bosik agreed. Also, after the 2nd season - IMO -- the show seemed to lose some of the humor that those first two seasons managed to instill in many of the early episodes ( Crockett's pet alligator , Elvis, for one) ......

Crockett looked the best in the first two seasons wearing pastels, wayfarers and rocking amazing medium length haircut. I personally didn't like his look in the 3rd season with the spiky hair and neonish clothes. In seasons 4-5 Crockett had more of a cowboy look which was pretty fine, but slightly changed the direction where Miami Vice was heading. I also agree that the first two seasons are the best, the style says it all! Also, the Daytona was more badass, even though it was a replica.

@@krzysztof7648 I agree I wish the show would have kept the style, aesthetics and tone of the first two seasons throughout the whole series run.

True enough it is an evolution how a show starts and finishes..and some of the episodes started going downhill towards the final ending of Miami Vice, but this cast, Crockett and Tubbs characters in particular were awesomely fierce from beginning to end, couldn't have asked for a better cop show, not to mention it paved the way for so many others to come!

His acting got better and better with each episode, especially with the very emotional episodes. I think letting his hair grow too long and out of control, was meant to show how little by little he was losing control

Miami Vice takes place between 1984-1989. In the series finale, after he throws his badge in the dirt, telling Lt Castillo he quits the vice squad, him and Tubbs are seen driving off in his "stolen" Ferrari. (stolen because it's the property of the Miami Dade police dept.) The first full length movie Don Johnson stars in after the end of the series is The Hot Spot (1990) in which he plays Harry Madox, a drifter who settles in a small Texas town, and causes trouble with his clandestine schemes. Harry Madox has a similar aloof and laid back vibe as Sonny Crocket, and also dons similar luxurious, loose cut clothing. He also seems to be one step ahead of the town law enforcement at all times, and keeps his cool dealing with the town's seedy characters. This begs the question: is Harry Madox actually Sonny Crockett?

Sonny Crockett is why the fans tune into the show. He is the show's main draw and the descent from Season 1 to 5 does show his disillusioned self by the end of the show's run.

You literally can. Don Johnson also acted in Nash Bridges which I love about as much as I love all of Vice. Recently, a movie came out for Nash Bridges with the original cast. I haven't watched it myself but if you want to see Don acting today in a similar movie/show thats about a year old, thats the way to go.

Crockett was a very well developed character. He starts the series and the season losing his partner Eddie, but quickly gains one in Tubbs, who comes to Miami to avenge his brother's death. The moment, at least for me, when Crockett and Tubbs really and truly became partners was when Tubbs loaded the shotgun in the car and Crockett didn't even say anything about it. Crockett's home life was a mess, resulting from his undercover work, but he tried to keep his family together. I didn't like his hair long in season three or his mullet.

Something really odd about the therapy scene is that Crockett doesn’t mention his first partner Eddie, Lieutenant Rodriguez, Evan or even Zito. Feels like the writer of the episode didn’t watch any of the previous seasons of Miami Vice.

I don’t think Don Johnson was a great actor in season 1, in particular not playing strong emotions. The style, the cars, the screenwriting was good and innovative, but in the first season there was a lot of overacting on Johnson’s part. He got better over the seasons and, while the show deteriorated a little, Johnson became great.
