Miami Vice Classic! Originally, the name "Bug Van" was a play on the fact the van was outwardly a pest control vehicle with a giant bug on the roof and the fact that it was also used for electronic surveillance (often called "bugging").
From Miami Vice Season 1 Episode 17 “Rites de passage”: An old flame of Castillo's comes to Miami to to rescue her sister from a life of prostitution. He assists in the search.

Switek and Zito!!! I remember going to a summer pool party back in 1987, after my senior end had ended... it was a "Costume" theme... my best bud and I dressed up as Switek & Zito... I was Switek... he was Zito... still got the pics!!! Everyone there had a good laugh with us... we weren't even close to being handsome enuff for Crockett & Tubbs... plus my bud was a pale skinned white dude to! Memories... Memories!

My parents were in Waverly Iowa back in the 1990s visiting relatives. They were told that the actor from Miami Vice, Michael Talbott, lived there on a farm (as I recall) and that he had the original Bug Busters van from the TV show on his property. Sure enough, my parents drove by and said it was there, complete with the giant bug on the roof.

That van is so conspicuous. I love how the wings on the fake bug start flapping and Zito gets knocked off the roof of the van. Fortunately, he didn't have a very long fall. "Technical difficulties, guys?" classic Crockett line there. And then Tubbs says "maybe it's possessed." and then has that laugh.

By 1986 fashion trends were changing, and for season 3 the pastels that had epitomised the early episodes were largely replaced by harsh neon colours, including darker greens and blues, a move that again influenced the clothing choices made by the public but nonetheless upset many fans of the show. In response to these criticisms, pastels were reintroduced from season 4 onwards, though by the middle of season 5 Crockett could often be seen wearing the denim and leather that was becoming fashionable by that time. The fashion trends established towards the end of the show's five year run continued after its cancellation, and influenced clothing styles into the early 1990s.

Switek and Zito were the Anti-Crockett and Tubbs. They were what everyone that watched the show would have been if they on the Vice squad. See, everyone watching wanted to Crockett and Tubbs, but in reality, we'd all be Stan and Larry, instead. That said, the show lost so much of its innocence when Larry was killed off.

I caught the rerun of this in September of 1985. I remember the bug on top of the van. I think this was the only scene with this particular van in the series.
