Great tip - got rid of two rattle and wind noise after months of wondering the source! One tip: if you have lost the nuts ( I lost two) - they are hard to find as they are not standard size (for those threads). I had replacement nuts but they didn't fit in indent under the latch - quick fix - flip the bolt so it pushes up through latch and then you can use standard nuts for that bolt.

thanks heaps man, this has just helped me stop a wind noise that sounded like a small whistling bird was tapped in my roof! I think it may be a little drier in my car now too!

Was it because there was a small ‘lip” in the front middle of the hardtop?

Hi, if anyone is still reading this I have a close but not quite exact problem. (though, the bolts hidden under the cap there will be my next fix too) The actual mounting anchor that is attached to the car is loose on the back left. On the right side, it's still tight and the threading is present, visible just inside the hold that the anchor screws into. On the back left, the threading is absent and the anchor is totally loose. Any idea if that's fixable? It looks like a second threaded ring attached to the underside of the sheet metal the anchor's threading goes into, but that threaded ring is totally gone on the left, like it rattled off on the horrible roads of California. Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated! Edit: found a hex bolt that fit what I learned are called frankenstein bolts and with some fiddling managed to relock that bolt down and is now tight. Thanks for the video on the latch adjustment, did that too and she's quiet as can be. On the roof department, anyway 😅

what are the 2 nuts tighten into becuase there werent any holes where the frankenstein bolt is for the 2 nuts
@bryanmurphy266 жыл бұрын
Wilson Wang those don't attach to the car. They just hold the piece in the latch that locks on to the Frankenstein bolt. The piece is slotted so when you loosen the bolts, you can adjust latch engagement.

If anyone has any information on where to get those 2 12mm bolts for the back latch for my hardtop that would be greatly appreciated

You can order them online at Jim Ellis Mazda.

They are unusual specialty bolts, M8 x 1.25 about 15mm long. I got some M8 x 1.25 x 20 from a hardware store and cut off the ends, works perfectly.

The latches come with the hardtop. The Frankenstein bolts you can buy off Ebay or from Mazda. They fit MK1 and 2. They just screw in to replace the flush screw in the metal plate.
