How I made my Mazda MX-5 a sub 5 sec 0-60mph monster!

Here's a walk around of my own Mazda MX-5. I'll talk you through why I bought the car, what modifications I've done to it, what's gone wrong with it and show you how difficult it can be to film these videos... Yes, even though I was in a public carpark someone was very cross that I was filming... And so a little argument ensued!

Trip down memory lane for me. I owned a Mk 2 1.8i MX-5 for 15 years. Only had to get rid of it because the family size grew past the number of seats. I didn’t mod the car at all, but I absolutely loved it. You’re right about the tendency to rust though… mine was starting to show rust all over the place by the end. Checked it on DVLA the other day, it’s still out there more than a decade after I sold it, so the rust was clearly sortable…

Thanks, that was an absolutely brilliant and the best informative video on KZbin on the MX 5 and I especially loved the filming and what t look out for tips ( you made that proper exciting, felt like I was driving ) . I was seriously thinking of buying a good low mileage 2 ltr 2004 model, but after seeing your supercharged conversion it blew me away and put me instantly behind the wheel of my RX 7 30 yrs ago, even the exhaust sound was the same, so basically your driving RX 7 disguised as an MX 5 only the 5 is a much better and far more beautiful version. Thanks again for that as I'm now defo hooked and will be looking t buy the supercharged. If anyone here has never drove a fast Roadster, the Who Hoo and laughing tells you everything you need t know about small drophead roadsters, it sort of takes you back to childhood on the Fairground rides only you control the speed as you dont have to rag it round all the time ( but when you do the 😁 Woo Hoo moments begin ).

My stepdad was so sad when he sold his 1999 MX-5. It even had a chrome luggage rack on the back and a nice wooden steering wheel, plus it was painted racing green! Unfortunately he only drove it a handful of times a year, so it cost way too much in insurance and maintenance for those few hours of fun. I drove it several times and enjoyed it massively. The thing basically had the same power of a BMW 316i but weighed 500 kg less! That combined with the low ride-height and the tiny shifter made it feel like a go kart. So much fun!
