Just a note: this works differently on non USDM Miatas, on my EU version there is no check engine light, I need to connect a LED to the diagnosis box, and it flashes there.

This ^^ was the same on my eunos rhd model. connected a small Red led with a 2000ohm resistor on the B+ and FEN pins. kinda annoying but easy at least

I was hoping for some insight into where the engine tempratuer sensor was on a 2005 MX5 NC and how to test the operation of the radiator fan. But unfortunately Mazda keep changing types and location of devces. I was hoping to put a resistor in the plug to force the ECU to operate the fan as it appears that the fan or some other part of the circuit is at fault. The fan is also essential for the A/C to keep refrigerant pressure down. Any clues. Cheers.

If your wiring is stock and in good condition, I would think that it is one of the following causes: -Bad fan motor. -Bad temperature sensor (at back of cylinder head). -Bad fan relay.

Can you tell me where to find the coolant sensor on a 2007???

Really helpful video! I just got the mx5 prep for the new Sensor and that bolt on the back was the trickiest part but other than that pretty simple job!

I have a 1995 Miata and the temperature gauge on the dash is currently not operational. (previous owner says it stopped working a few years ago). Would this be a likely culprit for the temp gauge not working?
@MiataMan3 жыл бұрын
Could be a bad sending unit or a bad temp sensor. Both are located at the back of the cylinder head below the coil pack. I would change them both to be on the safe side.

what is the sensor on top of the thermostat housing called ?
@MiataMan4 жыл бұрын
It’s the fan switch. The parts stores refer to it as a “Thermo Fan Switch”.

How to clean the code ? Help me please
@MiataMan Жыл бұрын
On a 1990-1995 Miata, you can clear the codes by disconnecting the battery for 15min. The ECU/PCM will be reset.

Anyone know where I can get this part?

That bolt in the back you don’t need to take out as far as I’m concerned the coil pack slides up and out it’s like a little rubber grommet. You’ll see the notch on the bottom of the coil pack trust it will save plenty of sweat and tears lol.
@kalebworth8347 Жыл бұрын
I had to replace my coil pack it was causing unsuspected misfires. I redid o2 censors spark plugs, spark wires and I genuinely thought I jumped timing lol. Replace your coil pack before your timing 😂 I was almost balls deep mane woulda never thought coil pack because they looked minty
@MiataMan Жыл бұрын
The rubber grommet becomes very hard and melts itself to the coil pack bracket. The pivot bolt is not hard to remove, once you know it’s there. I’ve seen a lot of Miatas where the bolt was never reinstalled.

What were the issues for you? I’m thinking abt doing it. My engine jumps, hard to start sometimes, and sometimes shifting too
