Just for future reference: try using a bit of tulle on the inside of the fabric scrunchie looking part of the dress. It will keep it light but give it volume and help keep its shape. for the dress you need interlining inside the gold part: find heavy tulle it's usually cheap and replace crinoline/ horsehair that should have been used for the original dress and sew a couple of layers inside de gold top part.
