This was my dad's favourite song. He used to play it on repeat during our long trips and he used to be so nostalgic. Now that I'm older I think I can understand him. He came from Albania to Italy when he was only 18 years old to escape, for a new future? ...I still don't know, but it was hard for him. I can't really imagine what can mean taking a boat full of people and to not eat and drink for days. And he's not the type of person who complains. He also went to the hospital a lot of times because of some serious problems and no one was here with him. In fact, no one really cared. Now I imagine him all alone, enduring a lot of things and listening to this song. My dad can be really sensitive, so maybe at those times he would even cry. I understand you now Dad.

We played this at our dad’s funeral, it was so beautiful and true-we lost our mom 5 years before that and couldn’t believe it. We were too young to have this happen (I had just served in the military-I was able to get back to the east coast on my birthday and one month later my mom was gone). My dad tried so hard to move forward as best he could but in the end, I think he just wanted to see mom again. I thought I’d be brave enough to hear this song now without crying but that’s not the case-apologies for rambling, thank you for this song and though I don’t believe I can ever hear it again without tears, it reminds me my parents are at peace when I’m feeling alone and missing them more than I care to express.
