Michael Caine is one of the most beloved actors in history. From Alfie to Alfred, his career has spanned eight decades, and he's racked up more accolades than we can count. But Hollywood's most charming Cockney has a surprisingly dark history.

The narrator is reviewing Michael Caine’s life from a modern perspective….if he lived through those times he would realise that many of the actions portrayed there was no alternative to caring for disabled children in darker times. His mother didn’t ‘lie’ with malice.

The only betrayal here is the narrator's total misrepresentation of Cain's mom. At no point is there any real evidence to suggest any betrayal on his mom's part; nor is there any evidence that Michael felt bitter or betrayed after discovering he had a disabled brother. At that time, institutions were simply the only resource people had to take care of disabled family members. And it was not considered a betrayal but rather a merciful advancement in benefit.

I think one of the people Sir Michael would never forgive would be Woody Allen. Please note, it's Wuthering Heights, not Withering and Michael's real name is pronounced Morris, not Mo-reese. So many fabulous movies over so many decades but more importantly, what a thorough gentleman is Sir Michael Caine.

Unfortunately, far too many of youtube creators not only didn't learn how to research their topics well, but when we point out errors, they refuse to accept correct information, and go right on, acting as they are always right. We have a huge example of this, in the 45th president, and apparently 74 million people think it's just fine to be that way. I hope other countries aren't filled with such fools.

So! Michael Caine had no dark secret did he ? I have to agree with your statement that there was no care available for epilepsy though. My youngest brother suffered from it and he was raised at home entirely by my parents. Finally at the age of twelve he was admitted to a special day school and only went there for two days, as they could not cope with him. He died at home at the age of sixteen. At least Michael's mother had put his brother in the safest place she could find. My parents and brother received no help at all financially or otherwise from the state as he needed care 24/7 as they say these days. It hurt my parents so much they could barely bring themselves to talk about him afterwards as they'd loved him so much. This happened in the 1940/50s era . I've only in the last ten years or so begun to tell others what life was like for us in those days as most people were ashamed to have someone epileptic in their family and no one seemed to want to know at the time.

That is so sad. Today they have treatments for it. Although, it is still little understood and the medications aren't 100% effective. People can still live relatively normal lives.

What a horrible betrayal by his Mother. I understand that she had to do what she did at the time, but the betrayal part is that she should have told her husband and also should have told Michael when he was older. I believe the reason she kept this a secret, was because she felt guilty for putting her son in an institution and she didn't want her family to think poorly of her if they knew what she had done.

I loved Michael Caines acting. He always seemed in control and genuine which is what l thought British men were. He has never shown prejudice against anyone. I especially loved the movie with Sally Field where they were financially desperate. He had been married to a woman who took him to the cleaners and was afraid to ever marry again. The two together were hilarious l wonder what Sally experienced with him.
