@@ryanhall1215 Agreed. What gets me is whenever I hear people critique his roboticness and bring up other announcers it was like. "You realize they were never having as heavy a workload right? And they didn't last as long as he has either." I mean the dude has lasted a quarter century being micro-managed to oblivion while having an insane old man screaming in his ear. No crap he sort of lost passion. I'd like to see 99.9% of people handle that grind and pressure, even these other announcers they bring up. Except for Jim Ross, none of them even come close to the level of workload that was put on his shoulders.

Lol it's not really your fault. During the early PG era, that heel persona they had him use was insanely annoying, especially when they had that "anonymous general manager" stuff. Michael Cole not acting like a heel is so much better than him doing his best impression of being a heel. I'd go as far to say that Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler would've been a lot better if they had Lawler stay heel while Cole took over JR's role as the face.

Pat is bringing life back into Cole's commentary. With JBL, Booker or Graves it seemed too "chummy". A lot of inside jokes and them being parodies of themselves. Pat McAfee is such an over the top character himself that he makes Cole serious by default, but also Michael Cole can be more serious than before because is so histrionic. They kinda remind me of Vince McMahon and Jesse Ventura. I think Pat McAfee is the best partner Michael Cole has had, Tazz being a close second.
@deltaone2837
@deltaone2837 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, just as Pat pointed out, WWE commentary started becoming kind of stale because everybody was kind on the same tone. A funny, kind of semi serious tone. Pat arrived and brought enough of the oddball over the top commentary for Cole to go back to being the ''professional'' next to the "bragin idiot". As you said, I was never a big fan of Gorilla Mansoor and Jesse Ventura because Mansoor would GO THERE and be a partisan ''face'' commentaror. McMahon was by all intent and purpose, just a commentator and nothing more, true neutral figure and Jesse was the bragin one. It's clear Pat has grown up with the product and took that out and decided to go with it in his own commentary, and the way Cole was allowed, thanks to Pat over the top reactions, to be the neutral one has really elevated the commentary.

I’ve always enjoyed duo commentary between Tazz & Cole, but I’ve also enjoyed the trio of Corey Graves, Byron Saxton & Michael Cole. But now with the duo between Cole & McAfee it’s entertainingly awesome. Especially when Pat gets excited and listens to Shinsuke Nakamura’s theme and dances to it….. 😁😄🤣😂😁😄🤣😂😁😄🤣😂😁😄🤣😂😁😄🤣😂

Michael Cole was despised early on, but I think he's worked hard and has been consistent for so long by now, you can't but respect the guy. His play-by-play is rock solid, he can call any match in his sleep, when he's given some freedom, he usually shows he can be even better, he's helping the next generation and he seems happy to be able to do so. Kudos to him, this man pulled his weight in life. No doubt about it.

Cole has pull so he can do what he want within reason. Takes time to build it but after 25 years of working his ass off and getting his dues beat into him by Vince, eventually he becomes the boss in his area.. Which he now is when it comes to the international and domestic commentary team they have.

Michael Cole is so great! Like a lot of others commenting, I couldn't stand his character for a long time, but that was because you weren't supposed to. There's a huge difference between not liking someone in the WWE because they're not good at what they do versus not liking them because you're not supposed to and they're great at making you dislike them.

The moment for me was the UK Tournament in 2016. If you have access to Peacock or the WWE Network (if you're outside the US) I'd encourage you to watch it. During that he wasn't restrained and they let him do his own thing. It was basically how he's been since Pat came along, much more engaged and loose because he didn't have Vince in his ear demanding he do this and that. Since then I've had a lot of respect for him because I sort of understood, wow, he's very good but he'll let them make him look bland to be a company guy. Then you add in how much he does behind the scenes, that takes a lot of self-discipline and effort. Which is funny considering people like to paint it as he's terrible and doesn't care.

Pat and Cole are great together. Like seriously "next-level" great! I've enjoyed Jimmy Smith a lot more than Adnan Virk (not trying to harp on the guy but he was really bad) but McAfee makes even bad Smackdowns watchable. It's too bad Adam Cole went to AEW because I would've loved to see their feud develop on the main roster (Adam Cole is the GOAT of this era).
