I’d say it was too much in the sense that only Glenn needed to die. I still think it was dumb to let Abraham live past his comic death only to die and have his death be overshadowed by Glenn’s. Like how when Farrah Fawcett died on the same day as Michael Jackson.

Agreed. If Abraham was surviving past his comic death, which they gave to Denise, then he should have lasted until at least All Out War. Everyone knew Glenn got Lucille'd in the comic, so they did Abe to throw us off. Then did Glenn to shock us because we thought he'd been spared. I get WHY, but still, only Glenn should have gotten the bat, as sad as it was. And like I said, Abraham should have lasted until the war against The Saviors. He would have been great in that environment and gone down swinging.

I agree that is should’ve been one but I think Abraham should’ve died like he did as I think it was his perfect exit. Dying like a champ and not letting Negan break him. I feel Glenn’s death was unearned and felt that he only died that way because that was his comic death.

tbh, we all knew glenn was gonna die, idk why abe has to go too lol his death was not that emotional due to glenn's which is literally the one who has to die in that scene to achieve the reaction of the audience but i think they killed him off just to get over that cliffhanger, abe should've lived in AOW tho

As a big fan, I support the gore fully, but Abe should have lived for AOW. His death felt like a cheap gimmick. How do we top the comic? Do two instead of one. The cliffhanger really deflated most of the momentum as well. I loved episode 701 but nothing got me back to that build up from 616. For me, that was when TWD started to crack a bit. The story took a back seat to cheap tricks. The rest I blame on AMC for the shitty budgets. Lol Still happy the shows on!

Ya the cliffhanger was a big mistake in my book aswell. Should of just ended on that shot of rick getting on his knees shaking. The whole negan introduction scene should of been 701 or 616. Also could of went without the eugene saying goodbye to abe scene.

We shall agree to disagree. I dont think it was too much at all. In order for a show to make an impact you gotta feel the blows and this and game of thrones didnt hold back. I heavily appreciate shows that are willing to show exactly what happened even if its disturbing cause leaving it up to our imagination isnt always good storytelling. It's too much for the youth audience that the show itself clearly targeted. You'll never hear robert kirkman say Glenn's comic death was too much.

The reason it felt wrong was because we were tricked into thinking it was Abraham then they kill Glenn after. When really it should have just been Glenn because it’s a huge point in the walking dead comics and I felt the whole 2 episodes dragged on and we had to wait half a year after the season 6 finale.

They should have kept Abraham alive, there was no reason for them to deviate from how it played out in the comics. Of course, they only did it to "subvert expectations" but it should have just been Glenn that died, Abraham still could have died later on but it shouldn't have been during the lineup.

If the deaths were "too much" than the show did it's job right. No one can convince me otherwise, and I don't why people like lying about the cliffhanger ruining it because everyone and their mother were at the edge of their seats during that entire episode from what I've seen, myself included.

The emotion of that episode alone was incredible and the violence added to that dread.

Also, their over-the-top murders eventually caused other characters to become weaker and, in my opinion, lame (i.e. Maggie, Rosita, Sasha - all three are shadows of their former characters, or dead, in Sasha's case). There was a lot of creative damage done to the show during this time period. Not naming any names LOL

I agree, here's another reason: the other brutal deaths were from a fake creature that you can't really be mad at. Another human is real, that situation could/does happen in real life. I think what I'm saying is It's not an escape into fantasy if it could be real, it's a reminder of the brutal world we really live in.

It wouldn't be The Walking Dead without the story of human on human hardship. Not every tv show or film has to be fully immersed in fantasy, yes there are real hardships in the world and that's the point of The Walking Dead. It's about human survival and delves into the good and bad of human nature. Perhaps you should give Z nation a watch instead, it deals less with the human side of a zombie apocalypse and more with the zombies themselves, it also doesn't take itself too seriously so you have very little chance of relating it to real world brutality. I prefer TWD however, I don't mind being reminded of the brutality that's out there as I am reminded of it from the news everyday.

Nothing was fake about it. It happened in the comica. It happened in the show. The only twist was how it was done. Daryl's outburst after Negan giving the group a second chance caused Negan to take two. If Daryl were in the comics I'm sure the same thing would've happened. If you're going to stop watching a show you spent years on just because a great character got killed, then it isn't the show for you. See it out through the end.

Kirkman gave up on the comics and even before he did that he stopped being apart of the show (one of the main reasons the show dropped hard torwards the end of Gimple's era). Gore doesn’t bother me in the slightest. It’s the writing that was shit. Abe was a perfect character and he could’ve died in a blaze of glory during the war against the saviors. The writing just got worse and worse. I only read up on the wiki now and again and look at clips on KZbin but I don’t watch this shit heap anymore. Season 5 episode 11 would’ve been a perfect stopping point.
