This was THE BEST movie of 2013, at least for me. Waiting to get my double edition...

I totally agree EagerSnake…the movie is one big lesson The fact that so many people "hate "is based on the fact that they simply dont understand it…or are just not grown up enough

There are people who get this film and those who don't. For the former, scene 23 (The Crossing) in the commercial release, which is scene 29 in the Director's Cut, standout. If studied seriously, and this scene deserves to be, there is a lifetime's philosophy given in three minutes. For me the commercial release is the cut diamond, while the DC and the published screenplay allow it to emerge. I can't help but come back to: 'The world in which you seek to undo the mistakes that you made is different from the world where the mistakes were made.' Just let that run through your mind. The diamond merchants scene is also a stunner (Bruno Ganz!), again much better in the commercial release. Scott's film is mesmerising; McCarthy's writing is shattering.

Why did people hate this movie?! This looks good and is a dark original screenplay from a legendary author.

It’s a fantastic script, and the film ALMOST achieves greatness. It just somehow misses something for a lot of people. If you watch the extended edition, I think it’s much better. The film got butchered in the edit.

Got to see the extended version. Flies over the head of most people. Think of an average person, and realise that 50% are less intelligent than that.

'So, that, along with the lack of glamour in the violence, made me feel like that's something I wanted to say in a movie like this. And he said it, the author McCarthy, he said it, wrote it, and really put it together beautifully, so it's a movie with, yes, there is violence, but there's no glamour in that violence, and there's no glamour in those characters that produce that violence' (9:31). The best observation of all, and it explains why the movie is not as popular as it should be.

Really Upset there is no sequel to this Masterpiece yet! Malkena's part needs a little work, but still a well under rated movie!

? Everyone is dead. Malkena isn’t going to carry a movie.

I don't recall seeing the Counselor himself being killed. Assuming he is allowed to live, his character would be, both in motivation, business partners and professional area, much similar to Alejandro from Sicario: the vengeful lawyer who kills the cartel leader and his family in retribution. It would have made for an interesting background to Alejandro, IMO. Also we don't get to know the Counselor's real name, leaving it open to interpretation, so apart from the different actors, it would make for a really interesting connection between those two movies.

It's a cautionary tale. One that will get you to go to church tomorrow on a new path and make you marry Laura Ingalls no matter how boring the sex life.

just wondering if the use of the word 'jackpot' was a reference to another great movie Xavier was in
