Whats the difference between la cosa nostra and the calabrian mafia?
@oraziograzziano59322 жыл бұрын
@@33sosa85 Cosa nostra is the mafia Organisation of Sicily and the Ndrangheta is the mafia of the region Calabria. There are three official mafias 1. Cosa nostra (Sicily) 2. Ndrangheta (calabria) 3. Camorra (Region, Campania) but more expanded in Napoli.
@flavio71802 жыл бұрын
@@33sosa85 They are two different organizations from two different regions in Italy. Cosa Nostra is made of Sicilians (and it's not officially called Cosa Nostra, just Mafia, which is a word that possibly has Arabic origins from the times when Arabs invaded Sicily) while the Calabrian one is made of criminals from Calabria and it's called Ndrangheta. The organizations are not that different in terms of structure, probably the differences between the two mob groups are that typically Sicilian mobsters tend to snitch more often, and they are typically more flashy and less silent, but that's a generalisation.

I studied organized crime while in college. Michael Franzese is obviously a legend in American mob history as one of its biggest moneymakers and has a wealth of knowledge about his own history, business and associations, but as he clearly stated in this interview, he is not mob historian as far as it's roots in Italy. First, in Italy (Sicily to be precise) they also referred to and still refer to their association as "cosa nostra (our thing)." Cosa nostra was not actually the "name" of the organization. It actually had no "official" name. Cosa nostra was a descriptive way for members to describe what they were a part of, like saying "we are a part of the same thing" The term "La Cosa Nostra" was actually created by the FBI and deciminated by the American media, and therefore became the popular way to refer to Italian mob organizations. To add "La" is grammatically incorrect, that is like saying "The our thing." Another popular misconception is that Cosa Nostra is not all one organization, even in Southern Italy. They are various criminal organizations of Sicilian descent that share a similar structure and code of conduct that sometimes cooperate with each other and sometimes rival each other. The cooperation of these groups and the bosses of these groups basically form a quasi-government for criminals, that provides many of the same functions that a government does in a mainstream society...taxes, penalties, demarcation of lands and territories, conflict resolutions, etc. Also, Cosa Nostra in Italy, is almost strictly composed of Sicilians, not simply Italians. Other major Italian criminal organizations like the Camorra are derived from Naples. The current most powerful criminal organization in Italy is the N'Drangheta, which comes from Calabria. The American Cosa Nostra was and is much different than its Sicilian predecessors. First, when it originated in the states, it originated like a Pan-Italian descent organization, composed of criminals members who derived from Sicily, Naples, Calabria and other parts of Italy as well as American born members. It wasn't composed of strictly Sicilians like in Italy. These are just a few of the differences.

its Italian but it has nothing to to do with Italians ( latins) the word ma fia was brought to southern Italy by the Arbereshe people of Italy. who settled in Sicliy around and Palermo to Agrigento and in Calabria around the 15th century.. when southern Italy was under Spanish rule. Kingdom of Aragon , later kingdom of the two Sicilies and later Kingdom of Naples etc... Arbereshe people settled all over that area including Naples. Arbereshe people came from Albania and Greece due to infighting and Ottoman occupation of their areas. they brought their codes of honour with them , BESA and the KANUN. ma fial ma fia comes from the Albanian word mbaj fjalën which in the 15th century was probably written differently as Albanian had not been standatized and in Italy the word was latinized to what we have today, in Italian vocabulary the M and the J have no significance. so mbaj fjalën--- becomes maj fial .. mq fia etc...and it means .. keep word .. keep honour.. your word is your honour. .mbaj fjalën--- in english keep word. and before you strnzi start mouthing off about Albanians this and that.. ARBEREHSE ARE ITALIAN, WE ARE THE SOUTHERN ITALIAN WHO SEE IN YOUR STEREOTYPE HOLLYWOOD MOVIES...we brought this shyt to southern Italy.. from our ancesteral land of Northern Albania., before known as ARBERIA. hence the word ARBER -ESHE

LCN exists in Italy, that is the sicilian Mafia which is traditionally how the mob structure is set up in the united states La Camorra is the neapolitan mafia and is more cut throat and flashy, they are a lot of disunited clans that are constantly warring Currently the strongest faction is Ndrangheta which is the Calabrese faction of the mafia which has swept up power from weakened Camorra and LCN factions who were warring. They are the most insulated crime organization and even have a level of command above Boss called La Santa, no one knows who the members of La Santa are except the Boss. In the united states during Italian immigration in the early 1900’s both camorra and LCN came over. They had a war LCN won the war, and agreed the neapolitans could join them under that banner for peace. Then later on came lucky luciano and how we understand the mafia today, that is why the mafia in the US is only known as La Cosa Nostra. Michael may not be a historian and thats fine, but he’s wrong about this tid bit of info. Mafia is also a general term for organized crime in Italy.

The Chicago mob is still active and quietly still running their operation and bodies still drop but the mob is mostly involved in more white collar crimes today. Chicago's new police commissioner made a statement last year I think, he said the police in Chicago have been so focused on going after the Sinaloa Cartel ( El Chapo) which made Chicago their American headquarters and the black and Latino street gangs that they will now focus their effortd back on the Mob. not true. before Garibaldis unification of Italy in 1865, southern Italy was under spanish rule most of the time. namely the kingdom of Aragon , and southern Italy was known as the Kingdom of the two Sicilies and Naples was its capital, wher King Alfonso and later King Ferdinand lived. the Mafia or crime families, which they actually are came from Arberia and Northern Greece in the 15th century.. and started off as blood feuds and vendettas for many diofferent reasons mainly family interests. later due to circumstances in Italy corruption , power struggles , unification , communism land rights etc .. these families became powerful criminal organisations... read about Albanian immigrants and their blood feuds and laws of honour , besa and kanun to southern Italy and you will understand.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arb%C3%ABresh%C3%AB_people

@Cosa Nostra shut up peasant , did i say they are spanish, I said south Italy was under the Spanish monarchy,!! ?? if you don't understand English, go to school .all the peoples of Italy are Italians since Garibaldi 1862, but the mafia clans come from the Arbereshe people .. and yes they too are Italian but their blood is not, they are 15th century Albanian origin now you understood me schiffuzu . chi sei ... the arbereshe have influenced all of southern Italy including fes and memmata e tutta a fhuttuta razza da tua

@@FM-yd5xy what history books . ?? the LCN COSA NOSTRA are not written in bullcrap history books.. they are a secretive organisation that has deep rooted history ..that has mainly to do with southern Italian politics under the Kingdom of the two Sicilies ,later Kingdom of Naples part of the Spanish Aragon monarchy..and later Italian unification Garibaldi 1862 ,and the rise of Brigantism...which mostly came from the Arbereshe community .. the Arbereshe people of southern Italy.. they do not care if you are Sicilian or whatever you are.. but if you want me to give you some Sicilian Arbereshe CN families .. look up The Matranga Family. otherwise known as The New Orleans crime family.. one of the first CN Crime families of the USA. 1865. Or Nicolo Schiro`. Or Francesco Cuccia. Or Joseph Adrizzone. All Arbereshe from Palermo Province.look them up. if you do not know about the history of the Arbereshe people of southern Italy . its pointless talking with you.. its in the blood. all these are just old tribal codes from the old country. ( Albania pre Ottoman and Arbereshe from Peloponnese Greece who settled in Southern Italy from the 15th century) and no, we did not all stay in the reamaining Italian Arbereshe villages of today. .. they have legs so they walk .

Actually Cosa Nostra is the Sicilian mafia. I guess most immigrants to the US were Sicilians so they brought that origination over there too.

This is wrong. Cosa Nostra was born in italy (sicily) and had the same rules his saying. Cosa Nostra started to not respect these rules in the 80's killing also women and children, but originally they didn't.

The US Cosa Nostra (or Mafia) is an extension of the Italian mafia in Italy... basically a franchise ...and these franchises exist throughout the world, Australia, Brazil Germany so on and so forth At a certain level, they all report up to the core Italian families in Italy, the stereotype of the old man in a southern Italian village running most of the world is accurate and true

The term Mafia, as I understand means to swagger and be a braggart in the Sicilian language or something like that. The actual origin of the word is rooted in Arabic “Ma’afir” meaning shelter and protection. The term is used by the Media and law enforcement to identify these recidivists. Originally the Mafia was a group of honorable people, it’s members being known as “Uono ‘D ‘Onore”
