Yeah good point. Theyve been very well praised by everyone whos worked with them, especially since their very aware of the mistakes and consequences that their father and partner had to go through in order to keep it all together and make it through to the end.

One quibble: Wilson and Broccoli don't control the purse. The studio controls the purse. Eon has *never* financed the movies. Way back in the day, Albert R. Broccoli and Irving Allen self-financed The Trials of Oscar Wilde. They almost went broke. With the Bond films, United Artists and later MGM provided the financing. To be sure, there is often a tug-of-war between Eon and the studio about money.

Bond is about unique genre-defining tropes, spectacle, humour, gadgets and gorgeous women. Along with a powerful symbol of gallantry and heroism personified by the mystery-imbued character of 007, you have a long-running franchise that delivers every two years. Can you name many other franchises that are defined by their own genre like the Bond films are? That was the genius of Cubby and Saltzman: they gave birth to a new genre of film. BB and MG have stripped all of that away and given us a dull relatable character. One who hates his job, sobs and emotes through soap opera dialogue and settings, and, worst of all, bores me to tears. They have been trying to transform Bond into prestige pictures for a few decades now. And there are plenty of those around. All I want is to be entertained. Cubby Broccoli said it himself (paraphrasing): 'All I am certain about Bond is that it's entertainment'.

Michael Wilson & Barbara Broccoli if you read KZbin comments..can I make a suggestion for the next actor to play Bond? Audition RICHARD MADDEN. After years of looking at lists of who might be in line to play the next 007, overall, he still stands out as the best. 🙂IMO

Hi Henry, the good… you are the good. As I mentioned to Benjamin, you appear sincere and affable. I genuinely enjoy hearing the voices of Bond fans from generations younger than myself. It’s refreshing for me to know that ‘you’ are out there. The bad…I don’t always agree with your opinions. However, that’s really quite alright. Who in this life agrees with everyone regarding everything. Mutual exclusivity be damned! Lol!As it is said, that’s what makes for horse racing. The ugly… ah, now here’s where my opinions vary from yours, maybe greatly so. Let the jousting begin! Wilson & Broccoli are not awesome. Let’s define awesome. At least I will explain why imo they don’t epitomize awesomeness. Perhaps you’ll agree that ‘awesome’ is an incredibly high bar to reach. Cubby Broccoli was imo awesome. Harry Saltzman was also awesome. Look at the background of these gentlemen and to the heights that they they rose to in modern cinema. Together they spawned one of the most successful feature film franchises to date. Both together and I’d contend Cubby independent of Saltzman became and werepreeminent moguls. The early Bond films are an indelible mark in what was to become the ‘golden era’ of Hollywood’s swan song and demise. I strongly believe that if it wasn’t for Saltzman & Broccoli’s stewardship Bond wouldn’t have survived until the Roger Moore era. Case in point, OHMSS was a huge financial failure. Michael & Barbara had the stewardship of the series handed to them on a silver platter to say the least. There’s nothing ostensibly wrong with this. However, they didn’t have the vision that the progenitors of the series did. Nor do they have they ‘nuts & bolts’ demeanor or display the fortitude that Cubby & Harry did. You might say ‘well that’s understandable, that’s okay’, and you might be right on that point. However, I’ll return to my previous point of lacking vision and I‘ll raise the ante to include lack of creativity. They do display some vision & creativity, but they’re following in the footsteps of the aforementioned. There’s a serious absence of trail blazing and to a certain degree initiative in these two. They inherited the copyright andthe multitude of talented technicians, artisans and artists that came along with inheritance. I would maintain that during Pierce Brosnan’s era it became apparent that the series was lost in so many ways. For me it’s sad. Brosnan is such an amazingly gifted, talented actor. They had no clue as how to optimize Brosnan within the series. Such a waste of talent and awful screen writing to boot! The scripts suffered terribly from ‘writing by committee’. I’m a writer. That doesn’t make me an expert, but it’s just that apparent. Flash forward to the the Daniel Craig era. Did we really need NTTD? Daniel Craig certainly did and he managed to not slash his wrists as he’d mentioned that he’d do just that if he had to consider starring in another Bond movie. Oh the horror! Broccoli & Wilson did. They did more than woo Craig. They did more than appeal and appease him. They did more than break cardinal rules of seasoned filmmakers, they sacrificed Bond to appease him. For me Bond symbolizes hope and courage. As a character archetype Bond represents the flawed hero who despite all of his personal character flaws, can rise above, meets the challenges, puts his life on the line and lives to see another day. At the time of NTTD’s theatrical release Barbara Broccoli said that she & Michael make the Bond films to satisfy the fans. Really????? I contend that her statement is at the very best nonsensical it shows her very distance from our desires and sentiments. At the very worst it’s egotistical and quite frankly delusional. Killing hope and courage certainly presents it’s challenge for the future of the series. Perhaps that’s why there’s been nary a peep from them for the past three years. The silver platter has fallen. The flavorsome feast that we’ve enjoyed appears to have stained the silk carpet. We hope that James Bond will return. I’ll rest my argument here. With respect, Brian 😊

It's never sit well with me when people make personal attacks on creatives in general [George Lucas said when selling Star Wars to Disney that it made him lose any interest in making further films himself] or when people make out Barbara B. runs Bond solo when Michael G. Wilson, his sons and other stakeholders are involved. They do seem well respected in the film industry [Michelle Yeoh had nothing but praise for them, especially compared to most western film makers she encountered].

50% was Cubbys ide of goldeneye, before he died, this back in -94, rest was Campbell along with writers and the children of cubby. the only, way u think the duo is great if u love the craig era. or hate james bond, barbara along with craig killed bond off....so how can u think they are awsome?
