So I'm gonna put my 2 cents in on this. It's a live lead vocal over multiple layers of Michael Jackson's voice on a backing track. You can hear obviously multiple Michael Jackson's so there is some backing track. I also hear the live vocal over top. Which he's more than capable of. Simply production choices. Probably didn't think the backup singers were cutting it. Who knows.

He was a human. He needed a little rest in between songs. If you had to move like Michael non-stop throughout the concert, then of course it will take up a huge amount of energy which he needed keeping throughout the concert, especially for his dance moves and the other concerts to come. I also think that without the breaks in between it would've taken a dangerous toll on his voice later on. However, this way you get to see him dance to the best of his ability. Songs like 'The Way You Make Me Feel' are not easy songs to sing and take up a lot of energy to the point where he can barely breath. So on top of him dancing and bouncing plus focusing on the sequence of the song and dance choreography, it makes it extremely difficult. However, he did manage this in some concerts, like at Wembley in 1988 when he sang 'Billie Jean' - his breathing technique in that performance was amazing but that is an extremely difficult skill to master. This just comes to show that the lip-sync wasn't a question of covering up his voice, as everybody already knows how much of a talented singer Michael was, to the point of him sounding just as good as the album. Unlike many artists out there who just lip-sync to cover up their natural voices. I'd rather him do this in a couple of songs in order to see him dance to the best of his ability, rather than just standing and singing like most artists today. With Michael, you don't just come to hear him sing his songs, but you get a full-blown concert, which includes his dancing as one of the main aspects. Additionally, with the amount of concerts he had, he needed to save his voice, so he could be just as amazing for the next concerts to come. Most artists would struggle to last even one song if they managed to do what Michael did.

This dubbing is so off. He's not lip synching... You can't even hear the crowd during the quieter moments between verses. Unless his PA was roaring to the equivalent of an 80's Metallica concert this really terrible ass quality... as a matter of fact... I wanna say this is like those Rod Stewart and Queen vids where they partially dub a live concert and throw the real song in the middle of the film. That's what I'm betting on.
