It's important to point out in case someone doesn't know, yes, Michael was suffering from acute laryngitis in this time, this condition makes your vocal cords become inflamed or irritated. Swelling occurs, which leads to distortion of the sounds produced by the air passing over them. As a result, his voice sounds hoarse. However, more important than that, what we hear in this clip is the microphone audio that was "off" for the audience, the sound of the playback echoed in Michael's ears and, that same playback was what came out to the audience. Imagine you singing a song with two headphones turned on at high volume, you sure wouldn't even be able to hear your voice properly. That said, we add the facts and we have this voice as a result, Michael wasn't even TRYING to sound good, he was just singing so his playback "mimic" was natural. Let's cherish his legacy and fight for good things like Bad Tour shows, Triumph and Destiny in HD, not mic leaks from HIStory, which are useless for his legacy.

Just to debunk your bubble: ever watched the first Sydney concert of him in 1996? His Beat It performance was horrible. This man was no longer able to sing live for a longer period. And if I have to use 95% playback - why tour in the first place? It sure was not Jacksons idea to conduct another large scale world tour after the 1993 allegations. If he/ or Sony wanted the best cinematic experience for the audience - why not use studio samples for the entire show? There are at least a handful of Bad concerts available in HD (Moonwalker Opening sequence), Bad 25 APOM had at least one HD show from the US - yeah, screw that. Let's "leak" his ill faded live vocals from his last ever tour.

In the HIStory tour period (1996-1998) yes, he wasn't able to sing, many health problems, poor conditions of his body and etc... for me, HIStory is the worst tour he ever did, and, I don't like because is all studio playback. Talking about Sidney 1996, Beat It was a playback performance with live ad libs in the end and, is the case anteriorlly mentioned, he suffered from laryngints, and, allow me to explain, if you DON'T rest your voice, doesn't take care of it and continues to overexert itself on it (even more a world tour, with international flights and all that) you make the problem worse and you don't treat it. In 2009, even with lung problems limiting his breathing, he could sing MUCH better than on the HIStory tour, with 10 years more and a long hiatus.

And those leaks just proofed it. He was not fit to tour but he did it anyway because Sony demanded it. But for what cost?

The HIStory Tour has excessive playback and is not very enjoyable to watch. The mic feeds are not useless, they give us the possibility to hear at least a small approximation of what a live HIStory Tour would have been like. If they were to release, for example, the mic feed of a show where Michael sounded good, like Helsinki, it would be a big plus to hear the mic feed. The Munich one sounds more horrible than usual because of laryngitis, but a Helsinki mic feed would not sound so bad and great things could be done, like live soundalikes, using melodine to fix out of tune. And last but not least, having mic feeds of the backing singers would be even better, the mic feeds of Billie Jean's background vocals were already leaked and it's a gem, you can create a whole remastered show with the multitracks, you can create fanmade concerts, etc.

It's not really this, it's the fact that he can't hear himself here. The audio he is getting in his headphones is the same playback vocal that the audience is hearing. He's actually not trying to sound good here, he's just singing for the sake of going along with the playback and making it look authentic. Notice at other parts of the show when he is singing live and can hear himself, his vocals are way better.

Se nota perfectamente que el técnico filtró ese audio donde se ve a MJ totalmente desafinado, jadeando y cantando fatal. Te parece una buena acción hacer eso? Para mí eso es de ser un desgraciado y un sinvergüenza porque es dejar a Michael Jackson mal sin motivo, Michael no tenia nada que demostrar en la gira HIStory nada porque para eso tienes miles de conciertos de la época de Jacksons, gira Victory, gira Bad, etc... You can tell you only heard the Munich show and the Seoul show. On most of the tour Michael sounded good. Laryngitis doesn't last 2 years, if anything it lasts a week. Within 5 days after this concert, Michael Jackson sounded normal again. Michael Jackson WAS fit to sing live. Don't spread ignorance.
