Michael took all of the geniuses and melded them together. That was his magic, he made it all his own, and ALWAYS gave credit where credit was due. He always spoke of his influences and was so grateful to them.

+M UO watch Bob fosse in the scene snake in the grass from the movie Little prince 1974 , Mj has completely copied everything from Bob fosse including outfits , dance moves , mannerism and even attitude . Mj also stole from many dancers like Jeffrey daniel , Cooley jaxson , Casper , Boogaloo shrimp , Shabadoo , Electric boogaloo , The lockers , Alberto martinese resortes and a lot more . Mj was such a hacker that he copied Elvis's pet chimp monkey and faked his freindship with copied monkey which he named Bubble , Mj also stole final curtain call idea and many other routines from Elvis . Mj was a copycat , he was inspired less but he copied other dancers , choreographers , actors , artists more . Mj was unoriginal artist and a stealer .

Yup. While MJ's dance moves were copies of Fred Astaire's, he still made them his own...which I forgot to put in my own comment! MJ could DANCE because he studied Astaire and became a great dancer in his OWN right! :-D And I so forgot Astaire said that! MJ was dance...but because he studied the greatest. :-D

+littlenavybrat ok.....how? Explain what Michael Jackson did to make it his own. Please don't include moonwalk, or his kicks or spins. We know that those are his moves......well....not the moonwalk, he was taught that by Jeffrey Daniels. So explain.
@GinaBlythe
@GinaBlythe 8 жыл бұрын
+mellodee123 I'm a Fred Astaire fan and know that every dancer has been inspired by him on some level. MJ made some of Fred's moves his own by simple yet subtle changes. It's a flick of the wrist or the way he moved his feet. I like MJ. He was a very talented dancer. But he learned from Astaire and the Nicholas Brothers. It's not a dismiss against Astaire. When I write, I aim to write like Jane Austen, but while I can copy her tones, her humor, I still make it my own. MJ did the same with the dancing. He was more than a moonwalking, crotch-grabbing, tip toes standing spinner. MJ could dance and dance well. Even Astaire admired MJ's dancing.

I've always loved the old school dancers: Fred Astaire, Sammy Davis, The Nicholas brothers, Bill Robinson, et al...AND old black & white movies of the 1940s and 50s but I have to say that Michael's Smooth Criminal is a tour de force to Astaire's 1953 "The Band Wagon". Just how much of it was an inspiration for Michael I don't know but watching the clips from both side by side is truly amazing. Michael clearly earned the rank of Master Of His Craft along side Fred Astaire and all the other great male dancers!

YES, absolutely!!! Michael was inspired and influenced BY people from earlier generations, such as Fred Astaire. But, unlike many popular so-called "artists" today, Michael DIDN'T outright "copycat" off of those who inspired him (like today's "artists," and "Pop" stars have tried - who ARE trying as HARD as possible - to do with HIM). Instead, he took what he learned from his influences, and used that to establish an identity of his OWN. He wasn't trying to become the "new," or the "next," version of anyone who inspired him; He was always ORIGINAL, he was always HIMSELF. As he wrote, at one time, he wanted to "study the greats....and then become greater." This Video PROVES just how true that is.

Holy cow. Why is it that so many exchanges on BooTube degenerate into racist slurs. There is no comparing these two giants - both were masters of their trade, both perfectionists, both innovators in their own ways. Michael Jackson wrote some of the most popular music in history, and was a phenomenal dancer who openly acknowledged his influences - he didn't plagiarise, he offered tribute in his own wonderful interpretations. Fred was a stickler for detail, and if you watch many of his early routines (especially in the RKO movies with the sublime Ginger Rogers) the dances were filmed in one take. Poor Ginger used to say that after some exacting days on set with Fred her shoes would be full of blood. So please, (and I'm not belittling anyone who has suffered the disgusting indignity of racism at all from any direction), enough of the black/white nonsense. Let's just appreciate these two remarkable people for what they were: incredibly talented and entertaining human beings whose like we shall probably never see again.

+Michael Jackson watch Bob fosse in the scene snake in the grass from the movie Little prince 1974 , Mj has completely copied everything from Bob fosse including outfits , dance moves , mannerism and even attitude .

These are two classy dancers who don't get more professional. They are both as good as it gets. Michael had such good taste to be influenced by Fred Astare, a brilliant dancer taking some of his work and making it his own. I love the comparisons here and I just love this video. It's so good to see Michael's wide range of dance styles. thanks so much for sharing.

He got inspired and took it to the next level, all the artist from painting to cinema do references to the artist that inspires them....it is how it works. Many pelple did the same with MJ later on.

Beautiful! I enjoyed watching this. The similarities between the performers are remarkable when the dancing is placed side by side. Michael Jackson always acknowledged his indebtedness to the greats. He was always able to add something of his own, and the sheer speed at which he executed his moves was remarkable. He is not to be faulted for wanting to imitate the beauty and skill he so admired. Thank you for putting these together.

Man I LOVE Fred's set. It's so colorful! And then i love the way Michael flipped it. Also I see a little influence on the video concept for 'Bad' in the Astaire movie.

What a great video. It is clear that a LOT of thought and research went into what we see and enjoy here. Thanks a bunch for the effort and the pleasure I got when I watched. People can say what they want and have their opinions and I'll keep my opinion to myself but one thing cannot be denied; MJ was an artist.
