According to Teddy Riley, MJ had a poker face during the first five grooves he played for him. When he got to “Remember the Time,” MJ told him to stop the track. Teddy thought he blew it, but MJ took him to the grand piano and asked him to play the same chords there. MJ said he never heard chords like that before but it felt like church. And the rest is history.

Teddy brang the track to Michael and Michael wrote the whole melody for the song and he wrote lines in here and there. Teddy riley then wrote some lines in too and then he called Bernard Belle to finish off the remainder of the writing and to fit words into the melody that Michael created.
