The lean was actually an incredibly choreographed part in the song where he and his dancers had a rig in his shoes and a setup in the stage that enabled them to do this lean

@@harrietmiller3982 its not magnets the shoes had a special hole here when Michael slided his feet into 2 screws that got up at the right moment would secure his feet and he would do the lean, come back up and then he had to slide his shoes of the screws and continue the performance. 6:34 Michael invented that technique himself where you hook up with prepared shoes into a prepared section of the floor. basically prior to that the guy with the bomb causes distraction so that the group can go into position on the right side in the dark lights off. they hook up their shoes, lights go on and boom you got the illusion. it still requires a lot of body strength in order to perform this move in a smooth way. you can even see how the guy on the right has trouble to un-hook his shoes from the floor, it was quite close but he got it off just in time before it got too suspicious

Keep your eyes on the screen, Jack!!! 😂💕 Smooth Criminal is one of my favourite stage performances, second only maybe to Dangerous...and at this stage in his career, while the speed is a bit toned down, the precision and ease with which he dances and performs is just incredible. He’s not singing live...rarely did during the History tour. It’s just too difficult to carry this choreography and sing with any power as you get older, and are fighting the numerous health issues that MJ was. He did sing this live in the 80s, though. Happy birthday MJ, we miss you! ❤️

Here is what you NEED to watch bro: 1. This Is It “Human Nature” rehearsal. Not only was it his last ever performance of this song before he past but his BEST ever and it was only a rehearsal. The way he performs it is close to the album version in terms of tempo etc (unlike his Bad and Dangerous tour). You’ll love it! 2. Workin Day & Night (Live Bucharest 1992). That in my opinion is his GREATEST MOST ENERGETIC PERFORMANCE. His sings live, uses his band and back up dancers & has the audience in the palm of his hands. These 2 are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Just a lil info - Sammy Davis Jr was one of MJs people whose styles he studied & admired (like James Brown). If you've ever seen Sammy tap dance - his movements, hand/arm and leg movements - some of MJs movements are very similar to his. Watching this just reminded me of that!

Great reaction Jack! MJ even when sick, or injured puts on a show! He loved his craft and fans. The man even performed while sitting once due to injury but he had made a promise so he performed anyway. Similar to Chadwick Boseman they just kept going despite what they endured. He did this because he was suffering from laryngitis during 1997. All his other world tours, Victory Tour, Bad Tour and Dangerous Tour were all live!

Michael Jackson only sang Smooth Criminal live during the USA leg part in the Bad Tour back in 1988, there are audios of a New York performances where you can hear The Way You Make Me Feel and Smooth Criminal live He didn't perform it without playback after that because it takes a lot of effort not to miss the notes and to dance the way he danced

Michael is the only artist I never blame for using the lypsync sometimes, because he really danced the hell out of him ❤️... And there are tapes of smooth criminal 's rehearsals where Mike sung while dancing, of course it's difficult to keep up when you are performing for two hours in a concert. )

Unfortunately, most of the History tour was lipsynched. He did some songs live or parts of some songs live, but most songs were lipsynched. All the other tours (Dangerous tour, Bad tour, Victory tour etc.) are live, though. Happy B-day to the KING, though! Love you, Michael.

I agree with you when you said that Victory Tour was 100% live, but Bad Tour 1987 was the only part of the whole tour which was 100% live as well, and the rest Bad Tour 1988-89 and the Dangerous Tour weren't 100% live.. Even Smooth Criminal was always lipsynched during all the three tours
