This is a full collection of Michael's vocal range from childhood years to adult years. (sadly I left out his teen years due to the limited capacity of this video). Michael's voice is really magical, he has an amazing belting range. He's the type of singer who sings with feeling and emotion (James Ingram once said he never saw anyone in the studio like Mike. When most singers would focuse on hitting the correct notes, Michael would dance-literally- while singing...which was crazy lol).

People need to stop comparing Michael's voice to Janet's. There is no comparison. Sorry Janet fans. This guy was turning the appollo out when he was 10 years old; one of the great vocalist.

Janet's got some great songs but lacks the strength, vocal control and range to be known as a great singer. I also get annoyed at her whiney "sexy" voice that actually sounds like she is just running out of air. Her best vocals are actually in Scream 100% incredible! Maybe her brother bright or the best in her. I've heard he dies that for people. I did love how she sang together again. Her weaker voice really suited it. Most of the time I'm just screaming "sing Janet for God's sake SING, WOULD YOU?!" She's capable, but doesn't #annoyingvocalchoices

passion777 His voice is truly unique. Some people don't like it, but people who understand vocals really respect and admire him for his range and skill. Not many male singers have a 4 octave range and are able to have the kind of control he did. He really felt comfortable singing in specific ways that complemented his music but he was capable of a lot more that he never really showcased, only gave glimpses into through his harmonies and background vocals.

+Hugh Egg, I completely understand what you’re saying, and agree with you. Michael was far more capable (vocally-wise) of what he could do, than ANYONE will ever know. His voice teacher even pointed out that he “held back” quite a lot, and didn’t show, or reveal, everything to its fullest extent. There may be things that Michael always chose to keep to himself, in private; And, the full, true extent of his vocal capabilities probably was amongst those things. I, VERY strongly, believe this. He held back, NOT because he was “lazy,” had failed to put forth any effort and/or didn’t really try to do his BEST, as a vocalist. Rather, he was exactly the OPPOSITE, working as hard as he could, to get everything just the way he wanted it (and, the way his fans - as well as the public at large - would come to expect FROM him). It’s the same thing with his dancing, and every other aspect of his career, to which this applies.

Michael had the greatest male voice of the 20th Century. No one comes close! Frank Sinatra, Luther Vandross, Elvis Presley, Sammy Davis all could sing but could not come to the range of Michael. He could sing their songs and forever make them better, but they could never sing a Michael Jackson classic song and sing it better than him. Long live the KING of POP!

@Rashy225 there mY have been a BIT of it with Lady In My Life, but it was more so with I Just Can't Stop Loving You and the spoken intro bit for that, especially. They had to have a closed off set, Michael was just so embarrassed and didn't want to kinda be there in front of everyone doing this. Then things just weren't working quite right, so in the end, they had the idea of bringing a bed into the studio, had like a mannequin head or something with microphones placed in it or around it, everyone left the room and he did the recording on his own. A lot of them really disliked the spoken intro bit..thought it was a bit cheese or too...I dunno, just not needed or something...but Michael insisted on keeping "the ladies will love it, you'll see!" So they left it on the album...I think they removed it for some copies of the album in years later, but..yeah...Michael really fought hard to keep it on there., I found it real cringey and weird as a kid, but loved it in later years! 🤣

Very interesting video and comments. I've often asked myself "what is a genius??". The most concise answer I can come up with is "someone who has the two sides of the brain- creative and analytical/methodical- working together in complete harmony"...without the usual block that most of us experience. The union of fantasy and fact, art and science etc. Michael is a genius.

His range of notes in Never Can Say Goodbye (acapella) is worth listening to, as highlighted recently by a group of professionals who got together to examine his music. Can't recall who they were, but the outcome was that he was a 'genius'. We fans already knew that though didn't we? Thanks for sharing this video. Cool! Thanks for putting the notes. I'm a female singer and because he is a tenner, I find his songs very helpful for my own range when I practice. I like to warm up to his stuff.

I don't know if u already know this but Michael actually could go lower than A2. In the other video I saw where he warms up, he hits a F#2, which is 3 half-notes lower.

Don't forget that Macauley also remained friends with Michael into his adult years. Kid can check out Michael's 30th anniversary special...there's Macauley, right beside Michael as a guest.

@Yatess100 i agree, but one could make an argument for the beatles because of their innovation in modern music. maybe james brown because of his influence on mj himself

Well you can't compare a kid michael and I think we all know why. Now adult Michael, it's only fair to count that. So some can like Bruno Mars, Tevin, etc! There's always someone who can do it.
