This is why I put a lot of training in the feints with precision because when you have precision, you'll hit your target 90% of the time. In that comes with knowing how to throw a punch correctly without any tell signs. Everyone wants to move on to the combination punching, power punching, and learn everything else before perfecting precision training and that's where I think most people fail. However, without footwork(and Michael Jai white who's been a practioner of the arts for decades knows this) you won't be able to set up attacks even if you have precision and footwork and precision is vital before you can do all of the stuff he's showing. If you're too flat footed, you'll be a sitting duck and easier to time. Most of the fighters you see who even get taken to the ground is because they're too flat footed and square. Good video from Master Michael Jai White.
@jfkfocus
@jfkfocus 4 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by tell signs? Do you have an refrence video that could help?
@ishe728
@ishe728 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly, I'll add the greatest punchers and kickers all had great footwork because power starts from the ground. You need to have good balance from any angle or position to hit with your maximum power. It's all in the footwork. This is my biggest criticism of MMA, most have very sloppy footwork and rely on the wrestling and raw strength to win when they go against a true striker with equal wrestling skills(bc of better footwork) they usually get ko.

You are AWESOME!!!! I started taking a kickboxing class June 2019 to reduce my blood pressure and lose weight. I've been successful with both of those goals, but now I want to get stronger. The coaches had just started incorporating weights/strength training into the classes when COVID-19 struck and closed all the gyms in my area. Although, we now have classes on ZOOM, for me it is not the same. I've exercised on my own for years, but never got the results I wanted until I joined a gym. Having that accountability is key. Thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial! I look forward to the next one. And thank you for being 1/2 of an amazing power couple. God bless and stay safe.

The thing I LOVE about these kinds of videos he puts out... you don't NEED martial arts training for this stuff. Even if someone sees this video and nothing else? They're going to be better off defending themselves. Are they gonna win a street fight or even an extended fight? Probably not... but they're gonna know enough just from this video to potentially respond and how to end it, even if "ending it" means incapacitating 'em and running away.

Yeah feet at shoulder width is good for quick strikes, whilst a wider stance provides lower centre and more stability in a grapple for example. Practicing really wide stances are handy to move across larger distances whilst remaining in your sweet spot(balanced and poised). I've found lower stances good for fighting people taller than me when I want to avoid hands and just target their legs,which is typically my least risky option if he's already punching down at me with his height advantage. Wide stance is also good to exaggerate movement for fine tuning your movements whilst training, like feet position to allow proper hip rotation etc it can give you insight that is harder to notice in a narrow stance. What works for me may not work for you, but I wish you the best on your journey👍

Great info! I've followed you for years. 5 years ago, 2 years ago, and even today, you're still putting out consistency, relevant and helpful info! I do a self defense class that focuses on close quarter combat, and it mixes in boxing & muay thai, so these videos you post are extra helpings of info!

Mr. White, I had the pleasure to meet you in 2009 at the ABFF, at the Yacht Club. I know you don't remember, but I told you that I was a screenwriter and one day I would work on a project with you. I am moving to Atlanta in 2024 to write full time. I hope to one day soon fulfill that hope. Your movies and work outs are amazing, and they are helping me a lot! I just started heavy bag work and I have a long way to go but I'm focused. As a 53 yr. old it's tough but you give me a lot of hope and wonderful tips! Bless you and your family! Skrnrtr

Hello Mr. White, Thank you so much for sharing this amazing video! You are my idol and, in my opinion, one of the greatest martial arts masters. I love your movies and the fantastic advice you share on KZbin. As someone who has trained and continues to train, I truly appreciate the inspiration you provide. Training with you would be like hitting the jackpot for me, Sir. With great respect, stay healthy. Best regards, Gregory

You sir are amazing. I wish I had found you long ago. You take the time to explain everything. Thank you. I will be watching and learning everything you offer. Btw I am a Hapkido black belt as well and its so cool to find some one else like myself. It’s wild because I trained in Shotokan as well. I wish I had not started in that style though. Maybe some time you could give your take on hard and soft styles. I wish I had started in soft styles myself rather then hard.

A minor bit of jealousy, I want this mans' gym, the only comparison is the gym I lived at in Thailand. Moving on... I'm a bit more of an advanced fighter (both in age and skill, alas) but Mr. White here is giving me things to think about as far as my own training and what to teach to others as I move into a more instructive phase of my martial arts career. Much thanks and keep them coming!
