Why does he keep referring to Bruce Lee as a "non figher" though? Even after becoming an actor he fought all the time, one of the guys he beat was Bolo Yeung who was also much bigger than Bruce. I'm not aware of Bruce Lee fighting Bolo Yeung and can not find any credible sources on that. What matters in these discussions of street fights is how noteworthy were the opponents? You could fight a 100 pound weakling in a street fight or a bunch of them. That doesn't make you a great fighter. We don't have an exact count on how many street fights Bruce Lee got in to and street fighters generally are not of the same caliber as professional fighters. Professional Fighters are world class athletes and the most skilled fighters in the world. By "non-fighter" I'm sure he means not a Pro. Michael Jai White himself claims to have been a dangerous street fighter in this youth.

Id say he's the thai bruce lee he uses different styles to enforce his muai tai. And yes I'll say a weight difference works in the ring or the octagon where rules exist and certain techniques can't be performed for obvious reasons. But remember bruce in his younger years would go to different schools, challenge their best in a good ole street brawl ( no rules ) and win. Cant eye gouge or snap kick someone in the balls in a street brawl and a 200lb boxer against any competent martial artist under 200lb would be despatched fairly quickly can't defend from kicks and they certainly can't break out of a choke or sleeper hold. The only thing that pokes holes in Michael Jai's argument, is a fellow In the past named Sugar Ray Robinson. Who, at the time ( and even now) was reputed to be the greatest fighter all around. Sugar held both the welter weight and middle weight titles; he was Going for the light heavy weight title, when fighting Joey Maxim in Madison Square Garden. I remember it like if was yesterday, listening to it on the radio with my mother. He was winning but, it was the hottest night of the summer. Sweltering from what the anownsers were describing. I don't remember the round, but, he,Sugar passed out from the heat. Joey Maxim was losing badly. And it was the only thing that saved him from relinquishing his championship. I may be wrong about the weight classes here, but, it's the only thing that Taimak is right about. Doesn't matter, because it is skill and know how. A wrestler can throw you on your behind no matter how much you out weigh him or her. It's know how, and strength. In martial Arts it's called grappling. 'Love Michael Jai White. But he don't know everything. This might be the reason he backed off of his statement of being able to beat Bruce Lee. He'll never know. He is ferociously fast. But, Bruce knew stuff. A lot of stuff.

Okay Michael does make a good point, however, what needs to be clarified is are we talking about in ring fights or street fights. People forget that Bruce was a master of vital points. If the fight were to happen in the streets than he could take anybody above his weight for the fact that there would be no rules limiting him to go for the throat, the knees, eyes, groin or more. Every fighter should know no matter how freaking big you are we all have the same vital points. So taking Bruce would possibly only work if it was in ring only.

How come many people always think that untill you make fighting your profession, you can't fight? And also that Bruce Lee was just an actor. SMH! I cannot believe that Micheal J White is also thinking this, as seems by the way he tried to explain at 3:00. There he was also referring a bit to himself. But what makes him an actual fighter, or a "professional assassin"? On youtube I could only find clips of a point karate match and a Kyokushin karate match, which in the latter he didn't seem that great. Never mind at all the point karate stuff. Joe Lewis was an actual full contact fighter BY PROFESSION who outweighted Bruce by 60 pounds and he could tell you that Bruce was lightning fast and could hit like a heavyweight, as he was "popped" a few times. Bruce was indeed an actor, because he loved to do that and make it his profession. He also used the medium film to showcase his fighting philosophy and to show the (in his mind) great Chinese culture. However, first and foremost he was a fighter in whole his heart! It was the one thing he was doing or thinking about 24/7, even before he became an actor. And you can tell he was an actual fighter by heart as he got rid of all the "classical mess" and studied what was actually working in a no holds barred streetfight. He sparred all the time and trained his whole body and fitness up to today's standard of professional fighters at least, even during that time with less knowledge and equipment! And for what? He wasn't even a professional fighter, he was just an actor, right? What made him even more dangerous was his mental state. He was a philosopher too and his mind was fully geared towards being determined in overcoming any opponent in front of him. And please don't compare his onscreen fighting techniques to an actual MMA fighter, as everyone said he would never use those techniques in a real fight. Please also don't say he would get beat up by a BJJ guy, as he had no ground game. BJJ just was not that known in his area in his time. He was getting there though and already started working on grappling before he past away. Besides, among the UFC champions of today there are plenty of strikers who got no or bad ground game and defeated wrestlers or BJJ fighers (Masvidal!). I bet if Bruce was alive today and in his prime, he would be doing very well in the UFC, even with his fighting game of back then. If he would be improving his ground game today, then he would certainly be a champion for sure. Not saying he could beat everybody, in or outside the ring, but sure as hell he could beat (much) heavier opponents on the street, as there are no restrictions, which always favor the heavier fighter.

Even the best in shape person will eventually go down..with the right amount of force and over time. If you never been hit hard..how would you know? Bruce Lee to me was like a martial art scientist..studied and collected information, then anelized it..even used himself as a guinipig and practiced on himself, then came up with his own hypothesis. Then through trial and error developed his own product and then tested it in his own way. We that know his films can admire what his contributions were about. @@SeanBTHEBEST sure if your older! Trust me i grew up Wrestling and Boxing losing weight for fights or matches isn't easy but what I'm saying is these professional fighters are doing fitness as their job, if they are going out getting high, drinking, eating like crap etc. Then that's on them for not staying focused. A fighter like Mayweather or Pacquio are always near their fighting weight! Floyd may havd to lose 5-10 pounds Manny in most cases doesn't gain or lose any weight because he's not even naturally that! For example when Manny fought Margarito, Clotty, Cotto etc. They fought at 154 they were in their prime early to mid 30's so fighting at a catch weight of 150 isn't difficult considering Manny only weighed 149. Now his fight with De La Hoya. Oscar was pushing 40, coke and drinking was his thing so of course he will be dehydrated and drained his body doesn't respond as well as it used to.

So on the one hand I completely disagree with this gentleman but on the other hand, he's got a very good point: When I was a senior in HS, having started on the varsity wrestling team since the first day as a freshman, I was 'certified' at the 135lb. weight-class. I was *extremely* fit (world-class) and I weighed somewhere around 132-133 most days. The rules at the time were that you were certified by a medical professional, the school's Athletic Trainer, the team Coach, and a member of the State's sports/scholastic group - and you could not wrestle below that weight, but *AT THE TIME* you were allowed to 'bump up' 2 weight-classes. (I am almost certain it's changed, this was 20+ years ago now.) -- I was certified at 130lbs, and it was hard to get there on the day of the Certification. I was in a very tough spot most of the season -- it was VERY HARD for me to get down to 130lbs, because I was already below 6% body fat and dehydrated most days etc. -- but during certain matches (for certain advantageous matchups for the team) I would suck weight and wrestle at 130lbs- and I was (while not very tall) easily the strongest and fastest 130lb. I faced. I was "the big guy" for 130lbs. However, when I wrestled at 135lbs - which I did much more often because it was much easier for me to not lose those 2-3 lbs. (it doesn't sound like a lot, but it was a lot!) -- I was wrestling giants. I was always the shortest guy I wrestled, and some of the people I was wrestling were people natural 145lb. guys (huge compared to me) who were sucking down to 135lb. .... So I can totally understand this gentleman's point about the size and weight advantage in fighting and how a little bit can make a difference, let alone someone 5'8" 130-135lbs vs 6'2" 230lbs- obviously it's a huuuuuuuuge difference. BUT -- BUT BUT BUT -- we're talking about Bruce Lee, who is the most talented martial artist in living memory... I am not sure what planet this gentleman is from, but certainly not the one Bruce Lee was from, because if ever there was an exception to the 'size' rule, it would be him. And lest we forget, Bruce Lee trained to fight *to the death*, breaking bones, destroying joints, permanent maiming and crippling injuries. He didn't train to fight with Octogon rules and tapping out and sportsmanship.

I totally get what Michael is saying since I grew up in a family of dancers and boxers/mixed martial artists. Martial ARTS is like dancing you learn the moves (or choreography) and those moves are a physical expression and meant to evoke feeling that is why it is an art form. But boxers/mixed martial artists are fighters, so it is different type of physicality. At its core, there is no art form to it; it is pure brutality. My son's boxing trainer is a former heavyweight champion, and his former trainer is an Olympic gold medalist. Both said my son is a natural boxer because he is so strong. My son loves boxing because he loves to fight, and his love of fighting fuels his strength to stay in the fight when he takes a hard punch. In an art form your intent is not to inflict pain or absorb pain, but to just tell a story. So I get what Michael is saying. There is a huge difference in the intention behind a martial ARTIST's physicality and a fighter's physicality. An martial artist's uses his/her physicality to express a story, he/she does not have the heart of a fighter, so that artist is not going to be willing to endure the pain and risk that it takes to be a fighter. And that is not taking away what a martial artist does, and elevate a fighter above a martial artist, I am just detailing their differences.

Weight does not matter. Force matters. Force = mass (i.e., weight) multiplied by acceleration. It does not matter whether someone is twice your size as long as you can accelerate more than twice as fast to compensate. Your strikes will hit as hard as his, or worse. Anyone doubting this: please test out your theories on video with a 75 pound wild primate.

Mac Attack lol bro Bruce Lee was skinny as fuck. A small guy. Anybody that lean and on a movie screen is going to appear muscular. And he was not that physically strong by any standard

MJW you're partially right. The weight class makes an obvious difference, but you have no clue if Bruce lee ever fought in tournaments. Just bc you never saw him doesn't mean he didnt fight people. I've never see you fight in a tournament, doesn't mean you didn't lol... Proof cant be brought up bc you lived in a time and area where you could get recorded, maybe where Lee grew up video cameras weren't accessible to him or his family until he came to America...

Back in the day what 1950 1960 fighting karate for championships was weak I thought they had limits on it an Bruce Lee said he didn't enjoy that kind of fighting because it didn't show everything or something like that, an that is the reason Bruce Lee came up with the octagon in drawings we now know as "ufc" Bruce would of loved full contact fighting they just didn't have that 60 years ago but Bruce would have destroyed alot of people in his time had there been one he was an innovator of mixed Martial arts utilizing alot of different art forms again way ahead of anyone else doin it but that don't mean he couldn't take a punch or not fight just cause he was on film. I get the weight class tho an agree but not fully cause again Bruce had unbelievable strength, doing one in punches knocking people over an doin 2 finger push ups an not many today can do that still. Only haters say they can beat Bruce, but it's 2020 I'd hope that they would be a better fighter by now an Jai white is one of my favorite fighters as well

All 3 would take a L 😂. Ali was the only one who fought someone outside of his own martial art(boxing) and still lost in a professional fight

It’s a great fact that a lot of guys could have won in a sparing match with Bruce Lee . Bruce Lee was a man like you and I ,and as an adult man he never had his bell rung , or bruises on his legs that swollen up his legs and he limp a few days after his fighting . When power came knocking at your door , not just you hitting others . Size doesn’t always matter mr white ! A well trained Mui Thai fighter can be smaller but mastered the technique of hard which Bruce didn’t . Muaythai fighter due to their training and technique is different . They are hard and can take pressure to the point of passing out , also the kick your legs if your a good kicker , so that you can’t kick any more . Most fighters today use shin pads , They can’t Handel the pain , some big guys ! Joe Lewis once told me ,that Bruce Lee wouldn’t spare him an others that fought for real that were good .and let them hit him, he didn’t fight those guys , (he talk trained ). He was what I call a lead outcome seeker . He wanted people to know what he could do if he did moves , but he never let people do to him what they were good at ,except When Gene Labelle and taught him ground fighting. In closing , Bruce became better fighting his students , after free sparing on a heavy bag , his demos had a degree of gimmick with them . A speed drill that is qualified , I would punch you in your chest , before you could block , and the noise and your Frown would be my success when I slam my fist into your chest ! Not a reflex encounter . You hit at me , and I catch up to keep your hand motion from looking like you could have hit me . Although there is a training where you up your reflexes to hit faster and first , but if you get hit you will crumble , if you can’t take pain ! Do you ever wonder why 99 present of his film footage was with students , accept snips of a speed drill with a African American real fighter Grand master victor more . He never challenge them to fight , as your self why ? Grandmaster Slaughter 7/27/2021

It is unfair to assume that Bruce Lee would have beat any opponents in the might universe. But if you go back and study the Tao of Jeet Kune and you understand pugilism in its entirety it wouldn't be difficult to understand the mind set of a smaller dedicated trained person in a fight against a bigger opponent. That is particularly true among Chinese people, and Grand Master Bruce Lee was no ordinary or average martial artist. Bruce Lee skills was extraordinary and beyond any measure or yardstick of the day. Today everyone feel they can make such claims because they have become enlightened at the expense of Bruce Lee. Like he quoted: "let a wise man go the right way himself then teach others so he may have no cause to grieve. " Bruce Lee studied pugilism just like Mohammed Ali this means that he would have been prepared differently against each type of opponent. Go back and research Tao of Jeet Kune Do (JKD).

Bro he fought at a tournament back in 1960s I think it was in long Beach.. At the sametime he was performing his one inch punch.. Vlad you need to look it up on KZbin.. He was pass his time... Bruce spared different champion back in the day like Joe Lewis and said Bruce was good and and he had popped him with one of the jet kundo punches.. He had a video of him saying that on KZbin.. And other champions

That is the reason for weightclasses

in sports not real life. Bruce lee ran away from the martial arts classes and created his own style that fits real life situations Geet Kwon Do.

Again, that's why there are weight classes. And his fighting style is built on the seriousness of combat, whether you need to Bout, defend, take down, or kill, it's mastered on different levels, but again, how many martial arts are built off Bruce Lee? Same fighter 200 lbs, would give Bruce Lee trouble because his style would counter-take down a smaller guy.
@bkit54 жыл бұрын
TriplomatX ive seen people in real life beat up people much bigger than them. Speed and force generated matters a lot in fights. Mike Tyson is an example he was one of the smartest heavyweights but a badass.
@markd5654 жыл бұрын
bkit5 Tyson was short but carried a good bit of weight. I think he fought weighing over 220. Dude was dense.That’s what made him dangerous. But we all saw how Holyfield would eat all his punches lol
