@elijahruderman4 жыл бұрын
@@BratatoChip He ain't top 40 all time. Definitely top 50 ever. He was never a top 5 player in the NBA. He was a good, but not great offensive player because of his lack of efficiency. His career playoff field goal percentage is 47%, which is terrible for a center, and it's worse than Jordan's career playoff FG% of 49%. It is also slightly worse than Chris Paul and Reggie Miller, who are guards. However, he is one of the best defensive players ever, and easily could've won a few DPOY's. He led the league in defensive win shares in '93, '94, and '97, and from '87 to '97, he averaged 6.3 defensive win shares per year, which is better than any NBA player has had in a season since Dwight Howard in 2011. He only made the all defense team 3 times, because only two centers can be chosen, which is unfair because Ewing was a top 5 defender every year from ' 89 to '97. Also, he (only) had 10 all star level seasons, from '87 - '97, which is a lot, but not that much when you compare it to other all time greats. Also, he was terrible in the '94 finals, and Hakeem was 3 times as good as him in those finals. He was never an MVP candidate, unlike a lot of guys you would put below on an all time list. His peak was basically what Joel Embiid is now, except if he was healthy, and a little bit more efficient, because Joel Embiid shoots around 40% when he's guarded by Marc Gasol level defenders.

he does have great touch with his jumper and turn around fade away jumpshot, but another big man with just a a little bit better jumpshot, hakeem the dream, i love the 94-95 season when hakeem vs ewing , that was a battle of the big men. can't see them now a day, now every big man want to shoot 3 and want no part of playing in the post.

My Favorite All time player, so great, humble, yet one of the biggest stars, and one of the very few greats, that literally had to carry a team for +15 years, get to the finals twice and unfortunately lose, he never had a certified star alongside him, only some stars in bursts, and a little too late, yet he was always fighting. Maybe some do not know, but he was head of NBPA in the 90s and he fought for the players, he is the main reason why NBA players get paid this high today, most players who signed at the end of the 80's had shitty, Long-term contracts, and Patrick is the reason why, when they re-signed those contracts, they started making 10s of Millions a year instead of 10's of millions per 7/8 years, and I think he was the highest paid player for a couple of years till MJ came back. Such a class act, and one of the top 10 centers in History, Played the game purely out of love for it, and will be remembered forever.

I was a knicks fan in the 1990s. Patrick Ewing had very lottle talent around him. He didn't get get real good talent around him until 1999 when he really could not play anymore. He had Mark Jackson for a few years, but Pat Riley inexpelicably traded him. It was a terrible trade. It killed the knicks offense for the decade. Patrick is not Michael, but he did great work with lousy talent around him. John Starks did his best, but he is not really good enough to be a #2 on championship team. Knicks front office could havd signed Reggie Miller, but went with Allan Houston to save money. Houston is a nice player. Miller was an HoF.

I loved the way the Georgetown Hoyas played when he was there. The best team defense I have ever seen from a college team. It seemed like they had a full court press the whole game and if somebody got by their man Ewing was there to stop them. They really turned up the pressure on teams.

Ewing couldn't catch a break! Gets Jordan out of the way for 1 season and then has to face Olajuwon in the Finals. The Knicks had a great team
@paulvicentevcurimao55964 жыл бұрын
Add to that when i had finally seen a glimmer of hope, they were denied by the Spurs. This somewhat shows that if there were no jordan, Knicks might have dominated the east and won more championship in the 90s.

I have massive respect for Patrick and I believe he always put 100% effort on the court. He's also a very charming and likable person. During his heyday, I was quite a sports fan and watched him play many times on T.V. Truth be told however if he had the ball and needed to make a shot for the win, let's just say he wouldn't have been my top pick. I do wish him well in his personal life and as the new coach for Georgetown University. Not everybody can be a super-star like Bird, Jordan, or Magic as well as many other greats. Cheers

Houston was very, very fortunate in '94 and '95. Their greatness is overstated.

Well, they didn't have home court. The Knicks were up 3 games to 2, but the series went back to Houston and the Rockets won two hard fought games in Houston. Houston had a better regular season record by 1 game. Pat Riley was the head coach 4 seasons there - 91-92, 92-93, 93-94, and 94-95. They gave Chicago all they could handle in the 1992 playoffs when MJ was playing.

This is a guy who had a good face up game and jumper in an era where big men were not shooting the ball from the perimeter. The knicks still have not truly recovered after Ewing's career ended. They had a few good years with Melo, but they were never the serious championship contenders that they were with Ewing.
