What people don't realize is that Drexler was probably the 2nd best shooting guard from the mid 80s to about '93. I rank him in the top 5 of best players of the 90s. He led Portland to two finals appearances in '90 and '92 before finally getting his ring with Houston in '95. From 1990-1994, he kept Portland winning well over 50 games per season including the best record in 1991 (63-19).
@benyah33903 жыл бұрын
I'm going 2nd. Clyde was missing a #2 guy. The way to measure how good a player is, is by playing role reversals. If you switch Jordan with Clyde, Clyde has all the sucess Jordan had, but Jordan also leads those 2 Blazers teams to the finals as well. Nobody outside of Jordan could do that. Neither Kobe, Wade, T-Mac, or Jerry West leads those 2 Blazers teams to the Finals, only Jordan. Jordan probably loses as well due to him, like Clyde being undermanned; although I will say Jordan was better. Put Clyde in any position the others were in, Clyde ain't losing. Clyde with Shaq beats Detroit, and he wins every finals Kobe & Wade lost. Clyde, LeBron, & Bosh ain't never losing. It's the same argument I make for people who say Hakeem isn't the greatest center. With the exception of Shaq(merely because of his size) and Wilt(I didn't see him play), Kareem, Russell, or no one else is winning that '93-94 Chip the way Hakeem willed Houston to the title. And Shaq sure isn't doing it relying soley on his skills.

I was down low rooting for Clyde to win in the 92 Finals. Everyone was already jocking Jordan so hard by this time, and I thought of Clyde as a throwback to the 80's era. He had already come up short in one Finals appearance against the Pistons, and I always thought they had a tougher road to the Finals having to go through the Lakers. That would have pulled Clyde the Glide even with Air Jordan at 1 apiece. I always liked Cliff Robinson and Terry Porter and that whole Blazers team also.
@KG-th3cr2 жыл бұрын
That was a very special year to be a Blazers fan. They had a very solid team but no "superstars." However, they all did their jobs very well. Watching the Blazers in the early 90's with Blazermania in full swing was something to behold. The fans were absolutely mental at the home games and really brought the energy of the team up. It's very unfortunate that they never won a championship. Clyde did finally with the Rockets and I'm glad he did. Especially with his teammate Hakeem from his college days. My favorite player in the Blazers was Kevin Duckworth. He was quiet and unassuming but pretty solid down low. I got to meet him once at Vancouver Mall in Vancouver, Washington. He was quiet and reserved but a gentleman through and through. I'll never forget how massive he was compared to teenage me. I was sad when he passed a few years back and then when Cliffy did too. Those were magic times in my life and I will never forget them. Cheers.

The Chicago Bulls, both first and second three peat squads, were primarily defensive teams because their supporting cast was not on par with their biggest rivals including Portland that was seen as the next big thing coming out of the West after the Pistons. They had already reached the Finals once and looked to be ahead of the Bulls by a couple of years at least. According to Jerry Reinsdorf, as quoted after a 109-101 home loss to the Blazers in 1990 (when the Blazers were 19-1) "nobody was going to beat the Blazers" (of course the Lakers upset them in the end). And in Blazers' case, they were even more athletic than the Bulls one to twelve. But Jordan, was a maniacal worker in practice and in games, on both ends, and Clyde wasnt. Plus, he massacred them in the Finals. They came out as supposed equals and Jordan went on and dropped 35 in a half. As John Paxson said "As great as Clyde was, Michael was that much better. It was so obvious and it was amazing to me, that there was so much difference. ......just to see that in that moment in a series he could elevate and be that much better than one of the best players in the game".

Wasn't' asked to score alot for Portland but was 2nd team All-Defensive in '88 & '92. 1st team in '90 & '91. Jerome Kersey stepped up in the playoffs averaging 18.5 PPG from '88-'92. Detroit Man Handled them Blazers actully should of been a sweep anyone who watched knows wat im Sayin But besides them Acquiring Rod Strickland which was Huge I ASK Was this 92Blazers team that much better than the1990 team that it Took the Bulls 6games to put them away Or Was My Pistons just that dam Good? I mean i know they was but looking at some factors i often wonder 🤔 about several scenarios like Why an How Did the 92knicks go 7gms wth the 67--15Bulls when even the 92Pistons was Challenging the knicks takeing them to 5gms So i Ask Would the 92pistons steal a couple games from those 92Bulls had they of met maybe take Bulls 7gms themselves that yr 😂 Anyhoo some Champions are Dominate in different ways an when comparing the best of the best i wonder sometimes..

To answer your Knick question, after Pat Riley took over as head coach the knicks built up the team with better defenders BECAUSE of Jordan! So, Gerald Wilkins Xavier McDaniel's Anthony Mason Charles Oakley were there to be physical with Jordan and to disrupt him on the court because at that time MJ liked to drive the lane and he was quick! As for everyone else there can many factors like injuries not enough talent or bad strategy!

MJ is simply on another player. Lebron is a better athlete (by a bit) by can't beat MJ's gracefulness

Drexler didnt have a Pippen. A few Blazers like kersey and porter had some decent yrs but he didn't have a pip plain amd simple. Clyde got that title with the rockets and Jordan played in the 2nd half of that season and Orlando and shaq knocked the bulls out. Say what u wish but Hakeem had a 2yr monster run look what he did vs the ewings and Robinsons and shaq etc 9nly proving who was tje best center atleast for cpl years till age and injury crept up. He'll with Barkley the rockets got to west finals but age was affecting them more. And more but had Barkley came sooner and Clyde to Houston good god what they could have done before father time. But yes its all a buncha what if I agree.qz 2 e The bulls had big issues with centers like hakeem who the wacka a center bulls used on many centers wouldbt work against hakeem as he could make free throws. And what I never forget is how Portland choked to the aging Lakers somehow after a magical season and the Lakers came back to earth when they played the bulls in the finals. The blazers made it again the next yr but although good that certain spark wasnt there. Sucks as its history now and I lived in chicagoland and took NONSTOP shit over this finals. But Clyde will always be best in my book he should have been a little more ball biggish like Jordan but it wasnt his forte.
