I really want King, but I'm not really comfortable giving up Butto, only for the fact he's the perfect bridge guy for starting pitchers. He pitches multiple innings even on back-to-back games and since the starters are more likely this year to pitch a lot less innings per game, I'd really like to have him around to not wear out the pen every game even though they're really good right now.

Cannot be sentimental with players. Butto was nails in a tough spot but the Mets need more depth in the rotation, King gives them that depth and is just better in every way.

@@butterthyme2241 Oh I fully agree with needing a starter more than anything, however you're talking about a guy who could give you a win every 5 to 6 games, over a guy who could secure 2 or 3 with the workload he's used to. I know they also need a front-line starter for a playoff run, I just think Butto is too costly given the other starters we're working with and their unknowns.

I like Stanek, and I think that is a good signing. That said, we need to remember that he was not good in the regular season -- something that many detractors want to emphasize about Alonso -- but he produced in the postseason, which is significant. I'd love to see the Mets land King. I get that he will be a FA after '25, but the guy can pitch ... and he could make a big difference in the rotation. Hope it happens. Obviously, cost in terms of prospects is an issue.

Michael King is good but he’s ultimately a rental but giving up Drew Gilbert and Jose Butto…..yeah I don’t like that trade

That is tough for me ... I honestly don't have a problem with trading Gilbert. But I still think Butto has more upside than some believe. I could see Butto as a exceptional #4 or a solid #3 in a rotation ... and that is valuable. If I knew King would be extended that would change the calculus. But we can't know. I guess that is why Stearns gets the big bucks, so to speak.
