In 2020 I moved from my native Chicago to Raleigh, NC and, last year, heard of Lin's passing. Like many, Lin and Mary were a part of my mornings. Supplying the soundtrack of my early morning workouts to accompanying me on my commutes to work, I had grown to depend on his commentary, which was often laugh out loud funny to heart-wrenching in the poignancy of his effortless prose. I spent part of Friday and Saturday of this weekend binge watching The Bear, which I started last year and had to abandon because of work commitments. I was not aware that a particular episode in Season 2 began with a black screen and then Lin's voice reminding me that I was his best friend in the whole world. I immediately stopped the stream and wept uncontrollably.
