Both are awesome, but I have a special place in my heart for Michael Milon.

Milon 8.5 y Valdesi 8.3.

just look michael milon's jump 1000% for michael milon he preforms his katas just fantastic i mean he is very good,fast,strong. He is unbelivible,the way he makes the katas is very good so as i sad i give a vote for milon

Your analogy carries a good admonition: do not train/breed for aesthetics, or you will lose the opportunity to train/breed for strength. However, I think it is not a completely applicable analogy in that kata practice (in ANY style) exists foremost to impart qualities you desire in fighting ability: strength, balance, precision, speed. If a form/kata/poomse/gymnastics floor routine is judged upon these criteria, the skill will continue to improve. If it's judged on belt length perhaps not.

with the actually competition, for milon could be more difficult, in terms that in his time he don't do more than 3 or 4 katas, if he have to do it now he has to do 5 or 6 katas, that's a big difference. We can think, like he have to do less katas than valdesi, he can improve more each one because he doesn't need more katas..

I agree in principle, providing of course the judges actually base their decision on 'strength, balance, precision, speed.' One could include accuracy in there too along with perhaps Martial Attitude. Sadly I have seen far too many kata judges (and kumite) that are far less qualified than the people they are judging. In fact at one stage it seemed that unsuccessful competitors turned into judges.
@Pope250112 жыл бұрын
Accuracy could be a component especially in highly standardized systems, like JKA and Kukkiwon, but when different forms/katas are used by each competitor, there arises a distributable accountability for accuracy of each movement to make the judging equal -- and if system were to compete against one another, then you'd have to have breadth and depth of knowledge that few practitioners of either style possess. But it would be quite interesting to watch Valdesi's Gankaku vs Kytu Dang's Cheonkwon.

Milon never tested positive for steroids or recreational drugs while competing. He died at 29 from a heart atack as a consequence of a cocaine overdose. These are the facts, other things are speculation.

I love both! :)

I think they are at the same level. But Milon had a more passionate style whereas Valdesi is more cool and emotionless. I prefer Milon myself because I feel I created his own style and broke away from the japanese norm of the day.

Milon has a nice Unsu but Valdesi has Nice Gankaku.... well you cant compare who is better these two when they are performing different Katas...
@TheWmac6712 жыл бұрын
I like Valdesi and think he is technically excellent but the kime and power of Milon is just so fun to watch. If you were to be hit by these competitors techniques from their kata I have no doubt that Milon's power wins hands down. However in the WKF of today Valdesi would probably win, where pretty over shadows power.

Luca Valdesi is the fastest dude i've ever seen in my life, but i think when he does his kata he is sharp + fast, but hurries to much, but if he did his kata sharp + fast without the hurrying, he would be amazing, if not he is amazing alrdy, than even more
@BelloBudo00713 жыл бұрын
@Larloch80 - Thank goodness that someone else sees what I see. Another thing that's becoming very popular, especially in Europe, is the long wait. Wait for their funny walk to the entry point. Wait until they bow. Wait for another funny walk to the starting mark. Wait for another slooow bow. Wait for the announcement of the kata. Finally more waiting for them to start. I'd like to see a time limit and points penalty for time wasting.

They're both awesome! I can't "judge" two perfect kata-men like that. I prefer Unsu (I just started to learn it), but Luca's Gankaku is breathtaking.

A huge Milon fan, but it's really hard to separate them. Sometimes you can see obvious weaknesses, but not with these two.

i think it's not fare for milon he didn't play his best unsu but valdesi played the gankaku very well with less mistakes 9.5/10 for valdesi and 9/10 for Milon They are my favourite champions thier movements in kata are really fast and strong and very perfect almost

Kata competition was different during Milons prime. And people tend to symphatize for the deceaded. If it was the other way around, people would choose Valdesi.
@GainghisKhan12 жыл бұрын
first of all... thats what she said... second of all, valdesi has a lot of speed, no one can disagree. what most people dont think about is how luca compromises technique for speed, and making what he does more sport than should be allowed. (if i offended, sorry, just wanted to tell some stuff ive been thinking about)
@JPEWD13 жыл бұрын
you can not compare these two great karateka's with each other, because they are both from another "time". karate has also developed over the years and it is not exactly the same as before. Valdesi is also performing another kata.
@BelloBudo00713 жыл бұрын
@xlovexcz - Sure you can. You do it with different food, wine and people all the time. Why not do it with different kata? It's just my opinion but I'm of the view that kata should not be for competition in the first place. As soon as there is 'competition' things suffer. For example working dogs were doing fine before Dog Shows came along and now we have serious problems (breathing, backs & hips) in what were once healthy breeds. I think kata is heading down a similar road.

milon no contest for me
@Senshishuri13 жыл бұрын

@Musashi66619 жыл бұрын

Second, "martial attitude" is so very subjective that it seems beyond any objective measure of subtle degree -- this is where room for preference of belt length comes into play, which is to say, this is a rather useless criteria. The form or fighting proficiency of the judges does not confer proficient judging. Judges in court do not need to be former criminals nor lawyers to properly and expertly decide a case. In this way I think your idea is demonstrably false.
