Critics: "Classical music should be a sober, stately affair that strives to be a mild-mannered balm on the senses." Michael Nyman: "Hold my redbull!"

LOLO true :)

What absolute nonsense. No classical music lover would ever think something so stupid, & only someone unmusical would write it. Nyman’s a joke. Persistently dull music with little structural or emotional content, no change in dynamics, no modulations, an emphasis on repetition, rhythmic stagnation, colourless orchestration, boring themes crudely developed, & all violently directed by the git himself at the piano, a self-satisfied & self-serving git with tragic delusions as to not just the level of his own musicianship, but as to his place in musical history. Unlike the ‘mild-mannered balm’ of, say, Beethoven’s 5th, there’s no chance whatsoever this huge, soporific monument to aural torture will be performed or listened to in 200 years’ time. He’s a nobody; the musical equivalent of a fast-food flavour of the month, but with less talent.

@@richardmalton4985 LOL sure thing :) Love your pedantic and presumptuous comment :) Surely there were many "Richard Molton" who wrote something like you did when Beethoven wrote the 5th :D . Anyway it's your opinion ;)

@@amm9387 Of course it’s my opinion; what else could it be? Aside from that, I’ve no idea what you’re talking about.

It depends. It's hard to say which one is original. On the album "The Kiss and Other Movements" (1985) it last 6.47. This is a slightly different instrumentation and concept. But on the album "Essential Michael Nyman Band" (1992) it lasts 5.50 - and this is a very similar performance, but a studio recording, so it has a little less energy...

@andreacorol75316 жыл бұрын
Yes, you're right. I suspect this might have been just a mistake in uploading the clip. If you look carefully at the video portion you may notice at times that some of the musicians' movements look unnatural (too fast).
@danielomni90846 жыл бұрын
Andrea Corol ---@--- It is a digital based acceleration. The pitch remains the same as the original. Analogue played, also the pitch would have been raised. It is unfair to the composer to change his music in this way. Michael Nyman would never have played this so fast.
