"What's hard is to decide" Just because someone is struggling now, has struggled before, will struggle again or for the first time, doesn't mean they're a bad person. They are human. I've not been alive for very long, and I had my own addiction and I didn't understand it because I was so young and not really knowing what the world outside of home was like. I didn't understand a lot, but I understood enough to finally reach out and ask for help because I knew if I didn't, I probably wouldn't be here. When I reached out, I came to one person I thought I wouldn't want knowing what I was going through. But when I did. They listened. They understood. And the only thing I had to do, was tell someone who I both loved and cared about who loved and cared about me, and share a burden I couldn't hold anymore on my own. I let my mind rid its harmless thoughts, I let my heart be filled with goodness again, and I truly didn't forget who I was. I was just under a dark cloud for too long and I stepped away from it and found the sunlight and the rain and the beauty of life all over again. Years have gone by, and I know I don't have a desire to go backwards. I am more focused, sharper in what I need to do, what I need to decide, and I make clear to myself that if I'm going to do something, I have to go all in, can't have one foot out the door, otherwise I wouldn't be able to get anywhere. I'm almost 21 and I am going all in. I'm going to travel and I'm going to struggle. Instead of letting my struggles be obstacles, pinning me down, I'm going to see my struggles as a way to refine and uncover the diamond within my soul. I choose to see struggles and challenges, heartbreak and pain as the only path to who I'm supposed to be, I'm always changing, life is always changing, world is always changing, and that's okay. It's going to be tough, it's going to suck, but it will also be good one day. You're becoming a person you allow yourself to be, or choose yourself to be. Going through the motions or taking hold of the wheel. I realized this week that I truly have a gift, I truly have a power, and that's to do whatever I want, whenever I want, to be my best self, to smile and walk on, and not care if people see me or not. I am going to be who I've always wanted to be, and that is a good person, someone for my lite brother to look up to, to see as a good example in this world, to be a person that is needed in the world. I choose to be someone who cares and who does something in life. Who goes out and does the impossible, who does what no one else is willing to do or wants to try doing. I'm going to go all over the world, and I'm going to bleed and I'm going to burn and I'm going to work every day, earning my place as a human being born into this world. I choose to be someone I would have wanted to go to as a child. Someone brave, willing, strong-willed, helpful, hopeful, kind, humble, strong, happy, fearless, smart, nurturing, and loving, peaceful, patient, adventurous, joyful, courageous, outgoing, intuitive, insightful, inspiring, and other things alike. I want to be that kind of person. Thanks for this video. I love things like this

I’m living proof of what he’s talking about as well. Was on heroin and fentanyl for 12 years. I just celebrated 7 months clean. About to be 8 months. I went from barely having a place to live, waking up so sick every day, no gf, no job. Nothing. Now I have my own place, pay my own bills, got a girl of 6 months, full time job to where I’ve never called out or have been late. In the beginning I struggled but was still doing the same things I’m doing now but nothing was working. Once I started doing the right things again good things started to happen again too. There has to be a higher power of some sort. Gotta be.

I was living in Calif for quite a number of years and as we all heard these stories about whatever he was doing or whatever he was up to, I would think to myself, "damn, that guy needs a good friend to just offer a hand and help him along. And someone to pray for him to ask the Lord to set him straight." Of course I knew I'd never meet the guy but just the same, when I realized in later years that he was actually moving in the right direction . . . changed his way quite a bit . . . I prayed again. I thanked God for hearing my earlier prayers and for helping him get on the right path. I hope and pray he always follows that new direction.

I cant tell you how many days I prayed for him to find the light and follow it out of his darkness and when I heard then saw his transformation I was elated. Before he “self destructed” I saw an actor with endless talent and so many days I thought what a waste he is making of that talent. Then to see him do the work to put the pieces of his life back together just brought me peace. Not because my favorite actor was back and magnificent but because he finally saw his own worth. Once he saw that he became so much more than he was before. I remain a huge fan of the actor, but even bigger fan of the man. He is inspiring and I am inspired.

You couldn't be more wrong. People look to those they admire, someone they aspire to be like that gives them strength and courage when they have nothing else. How is believing in God any different? Someone you aspire to be like that gives you strength. You find your faith in whatever you find it in, and that is never wrong. Coming from someone who hit rock bottom and rebuilt his life - someone who lives in our time, real flesh and blood is an inspiration. Robert downey is real.

@jasonl1942 understandable but a human is a human regardless of their situation. It is ONLY by God that they are even alive and have a breath of God. It's OK to be inspired and praise someone for their overcoming of struggles or how they live their life but ONLY God is worthy of the Glory. Anything beyond that would be idolatry something Christians should keep in mind.

I had a client who’s best friend is Robert’s wife. She said he’s the real deal. A truly great, great guy. And I believe that. I’m also in recovery, and there’s a depth to people who have danced with the devil. There’s a deeper appreciation for people and life. Not that everyone doesn’t have that, but we have…idk I guess a heightened sense of awareness. It serves as a reminder of how dark we can go if we don’t remain in a state of gratitude, which in turn makes life a little easier and sweeter.

He's so awesome, God bless Robert Downey jr. This helped me, "You never know when you might need a boost." He's blowing me away. Truly. And I'm just a person with a mental illness, and I see how far I have to go, which isn't terribly far, mind truly blown, several times over.

Thank you RDJ for the lifetime of a memory that you have given me and many of us. Its to try everyday overcome the depression/anxiety that cripples the mind and makes you think that its all worthless. The worst that can happen to someone is to loose hope!

RDJ is not just and actor/star, he evolved into a philosopher. The experiences he had in life, the decisions he made, the people he met all together made him the man he is today. As fan or RDJ and Tony Stark aka Iron man, even i wish to see him as Iron man one more time, to see him suit up, to see him kick some bad guy's ass, to see him work in his lab, to see him just be the super sarcastic Tony Stark would be a bliss. Thank you RDJ for getting back up and proving to the world that its possible.

One of my favorite actors and a heck of a man. I think the bad stuff he experienced made him a better person, better actor, better friend, husband/dad (not sure if he has kids to be honest), etc.. I always tell my kids you learn the most from adversity. It can kick your ass if you let it or you can fight and rise above. I have learned the times of great adversity were usually situations I put myself in. I could not blame anyone but myself. The danger of knowing that is self destruction or self destructive behaviors like drugs. We get so down on ourselves we hate who we are and what we stand for. Do not allow those feelings to take over. Deal with them in a healthy way. Taking drugs is not dealing with anything. Its an escape that leads to destruction of yourself and others around you. Be better than your mistakes. Be accountable. Make changes in your mindset and life that are productive and positive. Take on new challenges. Embrace failure and learn from it. This life is a journey. It is as much about learning about ourselves as it is learning about the world, if not more so. When you learn to love life, love others and yourself, you are capable of such great things like being a great parent or grandparent. It is really the bonds and relationships that are key for a fulfilling life (positive ones). Anything or anyone holding you back is a cancer so cut it out and move on. Peace out!

When he talks about realizing the destructive thoughts, realizing the "default" pattern of it, and then saying he had enough help to want to shift it - I think that is when your life can change for the better. At least it was for me. I hope he is on a good path now.

I remember "Less Than Zero" and how much I related to his character; different reasons, but same self evaluation. So when his life spun out of control and public opinion was bad, I was still more concerned how he was doing as a person. When Iron Man was announced, the only comic I had ever collected as a kid, and he was Tony, I was unnaturally excited. So glad he made a comeback and so very glad it was Iron Man. Perfect fit.

Robert junior Downey,. It was some 12-13 years back , When you made a gesture of loving care for a young family member of ours, 17- years old. Robert gave a gift of his current movie at the tine ; IRON MAN 2 and items which gave happiness to a young man who lay dying in a hospital room.He even tried to come meet him in person but the movie's premier was then...You were there in spirit and we all have an infinity of love in our hearts for you. And thanks from me because your words here are an inspiration positively helping me on my path . May our Lord bless you always !. I remember watching the first iron man movie when I was a kid, and honestly it completely blew my mind, it was probably the second superhero movie I ever saw after the original spider man, and RDJ was phenomenal in it, later on when I grew up I understood what he went through, all the drugs and prison sentences, to come back from where he was, to becoming the best paid actor in Hollywood and having a legacy to be remembered forever, truly an inspirational to all of us

He's a wonderful man. Very encouraging knowing that he did and is growing. I loved being sober and it git tough because emotionally now you're facing and dealing thought I had it under control, whoop 3 weeks of going back I'm now knowing and also doubting that that wad a good idea so I'm deciding to no longer, again and it's tough but it's good and so worth it. If he can I can. If we I can, we all can.
