I'm really puzzled. I mean, Michael Phelps has asthma, heart issues, and depression, yet he swam the 100m freestyle in under 47 seconds and won 7 gold medals in a single Olympics. The athletes who are qualified for any international sports events all have test result of negative, so do the Chinese team in Paris Olympic. But US media don’t tell the whole truth when reporting doping on Chinese swimmers, such as NYT, they intended to leave out crucial piece that has proven Chinese team is clean, US media intended to mislead the public to assume guilty of Chinese team. This is the same dirty lowly politic US plays on geopolitical propaganda, making accusations and assumed guilty WITHOUT evidence, and report them as if they are ‘known facts’. Such as Xinjiang Uyghur ‘genocide’, what a joke!

Because using his "23 gold medals" is pointless for the simple reason that swimming is one of the few sports were one athlete can win multiple medals, in the same Olympics. The sport of swimming has four strokes, and multiple individual events as well as team relay events. A boxer, judo athlete, wrestler, Olympic weightlifter, etc., can only win a maximum of ONE medal per Olympics. So if these athletes want to win a gold medal, they absolutely CANNOT mess up at all. For swimmers, if they mess up in one event, they can always win another medal in several different events. Can't compare. So don't try. Pointless.

People who called out this before the Paris Olympics should be shamed of yourselves. This is especially the case for athletes and retired ones who know what genuine sportsmanship is like. You have achieved your goals not through personal efforts in the Olympic venues and fair competition. The Chinese swimmers are subjected to unfair drug tests, 5-7 times more than their counterparts and throughout the day, including inconvenient hours in the morning and evening. Even FBI has been asked to conduct the investigation. This is using undue political means to disrupt a sports event. The relentless media reports and open smearing has taken its toll on the Chinese athletes. The Chinese swimming team still managed to score medals in the Paris Olympics but their performance was subpar compared to what they could have achieved, had they not being the target of such physical and psychological strain - specifically that from the drug tests and media attacks.

Few have done a good job reporting on this (CNN's Kyle Feldscher is an exception), but Phelps wasn't testifying to 'Congress', per se... he was testifying to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce (CEC) Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigation. It's a big building, with a lot of rooms. Different committees/subcommittees can have different hearings, on different subjects, at different times. (or even a bunch at the same time!)
