I love MIchael Comments at this part: "I had this experience of complete ego dissolution, my sense of self fell apart it was like a bunch of post-it's being blown in the wind. Then i saw myself spread out on the landscape like paint, but i was still seeing it. It was an experience from a new vantage, I wasn't my usual self. I know it sounds weird and we don't have the first person pronoun to explain this. But what it taught me was, we assume we are identical to our ego, this chattering voice in our head that's telling us what to do. It can be very harsh, sometime telling us what to do, but it can also defend us against fresh experiences, emotions, against other people. It was that voice, that dissolved, in such a way that felt "ohh...I'm not identical to my ego". There's another ground on which to stand and take in reality. It's really the idea that; these defenses you've built up over your whole life, you don't need them and you can lower them and not face complete annihilation. ""

Very regular people that knew next to nothing about drugs of any kind. I regret that at that time, societally we just weren't all able to have a conversation about what psychedelics are, how they effect you and how its possible to lessen the fear and anxiety of death. There's an old book a friend of mine had. "The Golden Guide to Hallucinogenic Plants." Doubt it's in print anymore.

Thank god for this man. A very well respected, intelligent and grounded man on the front lines for psychedelic research. It’s a shame he only has about 6 minutes to explain something that really deserves hours (that’s where Joe Rogan’s podcast comes in). I’ve had plenty of mushrooms/LSD trips that completely changed my life when I was in a crippling depression mainly because of drug abuse. That may sound ironic, but psychedelics should never be lumped in with and compared to other life destroying substances such as painkillers or even Xanax. It’s a shame that we’ve only begun to start studying psilocybin, LSD, MDMA within only the last 20 years. If we had started in the late 60’s, I strongly believe most of these “drugs” would be FDA approved and helping millions. Either way, I’m thrilled that we’re finally starting to take the scientific research and benefits (with mind blowing results) seriously, slowly accepting the fact that these substances could literally change lives in the most beautiful way that words could never describe. If everyone could be lucky enough to have the most profound experience a human could ever have, the world would be filled with nothing but love and would be a much better place

Mr. Pollen. Did you know Paula Delancy, Chef at 1/5th Avenue? I believe she introduced us in 1976 in the kitchen I was her sous-chef. Would love to confirm my memory of you with thick dark hair! LOL

There is absolutely something behind these experiences. I have used them for 20 years in a pursuit to discover what reality is behind the curtain of self, time and matter. Let me tell you, whats behind this curtain would completely change the way we think and behave as humans. The implications are beyond extraordinary. I truely think that traveling outer space is a concept of the primitive. Inner space connects us to everything in existence. We are a part of IT just as IT is us. Freeways between it all and it’s accessible. I find it shocking that our culture is yet to discover this. It’s so massive it will change your life forever. It’s clips like this that will usher in a new way of thinking. A way of thinking that just may be the only change fast enough to save our species from self annihilation. DO YOuR OWN RESEARCH.

The way Stephen said, "well that's all we have time for, Michael," reminded me of HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Psychedelics can teach a lot, but the things you learn from them don't tend to last (at least in the experience of.... ahem.... a friend of mine). It's hard to integrate those lessons into your waking walking life because they are so tied to this very atypical experience. Whereas the insights you gain from serious meditation (like a 10 day vipassana retreat) tend to last much longer. But yeah, that kind of meditation is difficult and not super fun. Psychedelics are easy and (usually) fun.
