Wow, you have a really nice car We have a 2003 black on black, BBS -LM, Brembro BBK, Dinan Stage 2 suspension/mufflers, metallic clutch/lighten flywheel… We are the second owner from 2005. Our son would ride in a baby seat positioned centrally in the back. He loved getting it done. He is now 17 and learning to operate a manual transmission in the country. One can only imagine.

What a beautiful car, and a great story. Finding such an elusive car after a lengthy search must have been very satisfying. I went through a similar long search before I finally located my 2003 540i MSport, six speed. It wasn’t for sale either, but after a couple of months, I talked the owner into selling it to me. I’ve been enjoying it for the last six years since then. Thanks for taking the time to post this, I can see why you are proud of this M5!

I love discovering new custom touches people add to their cars like the black IND badges, very cool. Incredibly clean e39 too. So interesting how the person who ordered the car saw the white and black as a match to the BMW badge. Timeless Machines.

For what it's worth I just got the evolve medusa headers installed on mine with high flow cats connected to oem resonator and mufflers and I love it. It doesn't sound obnoxious or extra loud until you rev it out. To me, if the engineers had their way they would have the car come out of the factory with headers. This is evident on other M cars that came after this one. I also have the alpha N tune which I really like as well.

I had a black on black 540i. Loved that car. I live in the city and don’t want a manual trans. So that’s the closest I got. I never drove the m5 e39. But it’s the best bmw series I think. Still love it and want another. Maybe I’ll just get a 530i. I had a 528 and it was way slower than the 540 which was very fast. But the handling, the fun it is to drive. It’s like you strab it on and it becomes part of you all the sudden your fast and agile. I miss those cars. Maybe I’ll hit the lottery who knows😂😂

Beautiful. Never seen one in Alpine White (UK). I too have both an E46 M3 and a 2002 E39 M5 and they're both the same colour (Le Mans Blue). I've had the M5 since 2006 so you'll gather, like yours, it's a keeper 👍

Beautiful, first time I've seen another M5 with the same interior as mine. Apparently it's made of Ostrich skin did you know that? Where did you get your new headlights? That's what needs replacing most on mine and I know they aren't going to be cheap. Odd that the door plates were deteriorating.. was the plastic oxidizing? And I'm sure everyone is wondering - mileage?

PS: I have same dilemma on exhaust for a nice sound. Want to keep stock, but the sound release in irresistible (I have e60). considering buying compete system and keeping stock for return to OEM.

Leave e39 and e46 in ur garage as long as possible, what a legendary cars. We would like to see e90 m3 in alpine white join them in near future to. And than e36 or get e60 m5 😂 dude u are living our dream... enjoy it.

I have a 2000, when I bought it someone had butchered the exhaust system. I replaced the entire system with a SuperSprint. Manifolds to exhaust tips. It sounds great, but, in hindsight I wish I had replaced the butchered system with a stock system. At times it sounds more like a 60’s muscle car. But, now I have too much $$$ in the Supersprint to go back to stock and I will live with it. Keep it stock, or at least if you remove it, save it in case you want to go back.

@e39 source need some advice. I talk to you about 10 months ago. I have the 39 540 currently sitting at 846,000 miles and I’ve had the driver side Vanos unit completely shred apart and blow apart the timing cover and valve cover. Should I replace the whole head or the cams don’t look that bad should I just replace the Vanos timing, cover, and valve cover

I would need to inspect the cylinder head for damage, it could still be usable. Have a qualified mechanic inspect it to determine.

@@E39Source I got it working now I bought a new Vanos unit and timing cover and stuff around 900,000 my mom wants to replace the engine anyway has loss of power it’s really weak The craziest thing is to the Step Tronic transmissions are fucking bulletproof. It’s the original one never been rebuilt. by any chance, do you possibly think I have the highest mileage BMW? at least E3 9 wise or have you seen one’s higher

@@E39Source I had brought it to a shop. We were stuck in Virginia. We’re on the road now though luckily. it’s running again. The guy at the shop said the cylinder walls are really scored probably due to high mileage so we’re just gonna replace the engine here pretty soon.

Ha. Don’t get me wrong,I drive it enough to enjoy it. But much of the enjoyment for me is in the little things, like washing it and maintaining it in the best possible condition. So, for me, I’m happy taking it out once a month.
