Schumacher stole the lead at the start two times in a row at the Brazilian Grand Prix in 1997.
The race was red-flagged after several incidents at the original start. Jacques Villeneuve went off the track at the first corner. Behind him, an incident involved several drivers including Damon Hill, Eddie Irvine, Giancarlo Fisichella and Jan Magnussen. Irvine took some blame for the incident. Additionally, Rubens Barrichello's car failed on the line, and the track blockage was what ultimately caused the red flag. Barrichello took the restart in the spare Stewart, causing Magnussen to miss the race.
The race was restarted with all 72 laps still remaining. Villeneuve had a clean start, as did the rest of the field. At the end of the first lap Villeneuve passed Michael Schumacher to retake the lead. Later before the first pit stops Berger would also pass Schumacher down the pit straight into the first corner. Irvine came into the pits mid-race, having been suffering from enormous pain due to his belts tightening up in the cockpit.
Damon Hill was once again affected by reliability issues, his engine failing with four laps remaining. He was running in fourth place at one point, but had slipped down the field before retiring in the pits with an engine bay fire caused by an oil leak. The winner of the previous race, David Coulthard, was off the pace and finished in 10th place.

Funny thing about it is those tactics are pretty kosher by todays standards.

Schumacher finished 1997 with 0 points after being disqualified for the season for his antics at Jerez. He should have been similarly punished at Adelaide in 1994 but wasn't as he was F1's new poster boy at the time. Then there was the deal he struck with Ferrari in which the whole team revolved around him. His teammates were not allowed to compete, even gifting him positions and wins. His reputation will always remain tarnished among those who actually followed F1 back then. Eventually his reckless behavior caught up with him.

@@antonpotgieter2710 Regardless of that Hill incident in 1994, having that dodgy software in his car should have seen him and the Benetton team disqualified. As we now now, Flavio wasn't against pulling the odd stroke like this. He said the software was there but just not active, they forgot to delete it. For the first 3 races of 1994, Senna was sure they were using traction control software. Frank William's said it was one of his great regrets that he never pursued Senna's complaints before he died.

Schumacher was punching way above where he should have been in 92 -97. Those Williams cars should never have bee beaten. Just look where his teammates at Benetton and Ferrari finished during that period. He almost single handedly transformed Ferrari. To win 7 world championships over his time with Benetton and a struggling Ferrari for his first 3/4 years there is just unbelievable. If he'd taken the easy option of joining Williams in 1996 or the improving McLaren Mercedes he'd have gone on to be a 10 times champion at least. He's the best ever by some distance in my opinion.

@@GreyWingUK bennetons special software was "Michael Schumacher" even once the b spec car was introduced, Germany 94 , Schumacher still dominated, all Michaels benneton team mate's scored 56 point's seasons, 94,95 put together, hill was only capable of catching Michael through disqualifications, . You can't tell me they had drivers aids turned on Michaels car and not his team mates, because not just Michaels team mates, 96,97 Berger , alasi struggled driving the b196, b197 . Infact Michael beat them both his first year at Ferrari, Schumacher was the only one that could tame the beasts, He's Legend !!!
