When you think of Jackson 5, you may be thinking of the musical family the Jacksons group comprised of Jackie Jackson, Tito Jackson, Jermaine Jackson, Marlon Jackson and Michael Jackson. This performance was in 1970, shortly after they had sold 2 million records of their first hit, "I Want You Back"- they would go on to hit the charts at #1 for their 4 debut singles- ABE, Love You Save, and I'll be There.

It is exactly 19 years later. Barely two decades that is. Michael was 27 when he bought the publisher. But please MJ fans we need to realize that the move was not to show power. It was purely business. You might argue he could have invested in other companies but the guy loved music. He also had top-notch advisers which made the deal conclude successfully.

What great memories ! I was 8 at the time. I grew up with the Jacksons. I believe during early years Marlon was as good a dancer as Michael. Michael became a mega star, but his foundation was laid with the Jackson Five who are superstars in their own right and were and still are great inspirations for my age group. Please keep the positivity going MJ Fan Girl!😘

It's amazing to see how polished they all were even at the beginning especially Michael. Michael also learned at a very young age the one who controls the Mic is the one who controls the power. I love how Michael just started singing ABC like it was something he did everyday. It seemed so effortlessly for them.

At this point they'd already performed this song a zillion times on live and taped shows; doing American Bandstand was like a walk in the park compared to Ed Sullivan or Hollywood Palace or any of the MANY prime time variety shows they had already been on before AB. They look super relaxed and very well rehearsed....

The Jackson5 was the first "boy band" to achieve national & world success. The Jackson5 created the "boy band" blueprint. Also, the way Jackie, Jermaine & Michael sing back & forth together is sooo fab-u-lous. Michael is so focused. How could ppl expect him as an Adult 2 b anything less with that kind of drive & focus, studying & learning from the best of the best at #Motown & traveling all over this country as well as internationally ?! #MichaelJackson earned the title of #TheGreatestEntertainer that ever graced a stage. Can U pls review when Michael performed at the tribute to Sammy Davis Jr.? I believe Elizabeth Taylor attended as well & was in the area where SDJr. was seated too.👌🏾 The song he sang to honor SammyDavis Jr. was really very (as Mel B. would say) 'spot on'. Great #MichaelJackson performance.💜 #ThankU 4 always celebrating & honoring #MJ .. We still feel his loss, most of his #music is timeless. Don't 4get, #Amerikkka was still segregated then, but #America was rising up as an integrated, unified country. Saying 'The Beatles' inspired them was a politically correct answer vs. picking a black act like the #Delfonics & #TheStylistics (Love that Jackie refused to compromise his integrity) #DickClark was from #MtVernonNY & was always trying to integrate his TVShow, but I am 60 yrs old & remember this performance quite well. #MJ was only one yr older than me. My ENTIRE neighborhood were mesmerized in their homes around the ONE TV in their homes. Those few minutes put the #Jackson5 on the map b/c they were kids & teens just like us. They broke more barriers on Earth than NASA Astronauts broke in space. They united ppl everywhere no matter their skincolor/racial ethnicities .. At the time everything on TV fell into a 'white' or 'black' market. If U were non-anglo, your market was 'black' period. So, the #Jackson5 were much more than a "Family Act" .. They were just Family to us. Soon after that appearance, #BerryGordy secured their own cartoons on Saturday mornings.. with 5 consecutive hits under their belts they were the #1 Act 2 beat, but with all the public's adoration 4 them there was no stopping them. 💜Love❤️the Jackson5 & all the #ScruseJacksonFamily b/c they destroyed that stupid, segregated 'color' line & made the ENTIRE WORLD LOVE THEM UNCONDITIONALLY. Always #TheKingMJ4Ever❤️💜🏃🏿💜❤️

I can't express how much I enjoyed this video - I've played this video a few times now - your comments are spot on - and re. their outfits... you know that their Mom was making them at that time, right? They are SO impressive, it's so iconic, so rare - that level of talent & focus - and SELFLESSNESS; I think that shines through... unlike artists of today, who seem to feel entitled to 'honor', they were there to share what they developed and hope that the audience enjoyed it, and remained humble throughout - that makes a huge difference. I really love this, thanks so much for doing it.

He was actually 10 in 1970 since he was born on August 29th 1958. This was from January 1970 which was the same Month that Diana Ross did her last performance as a member of The Supremes. The Show you are watching is American Bandstand that was overall on the air from 1952-1989. It started out in Philadelphia as Bob Horn's Bandstand but when Bob got fired for his addiction to young girls and alcohol Dick Clark took it over and it debuted on August 5th 1957. Back in the day at least i n the 1970's there were three shows to do. This one, Soul Train & The Midnight Special. This was the first of many performances that they did and as you know other Jacksons appeared on the show from Janet, Rebbie, Latoya and Jermaine as a Solo Act.
