Honestly, I think the problem is that we think that the Bible is boring and we try to make it as relevant to the culture as possible. We act as if the Word of God is not enough in and of itself, and therefore we must help God by making His Word more digestible. We should be ashamed of ourselves. God doesn't change. Neither does His Word. Instead of trying so hard to make the Bible relevant and digestible, how about just reading it as it is and adding explanations or elaborations when necessary? In my opinion, this church service is an example of thinking that we are smarter than God as we attempt to basically make the Bible look as much as the world as possible in the name of being relevant. Church, we need to repent.

To add to your point about finding the Word boring - the Hebrews when in the wilderness - being sustained by God with mana from heaven - found the mana boring and desired to actually go back to Egypt where there was more variety of food yet also they were enslaved and treated horribly. So we too can get bored of the sustaining that God’s Word brings us - it is our flesh that wars against the Spirit - but like you said we should humble ourselves trusting God as the authority, and stay steadfast in what the Word says and hold to it with all our strength.

I've sometimes listened to some of Pst. Tim Ross's sermons and they've been quite enlightening, but this... I don't know what to say I'm genuinely speechless Edit: I've gotten over my initial outrage and now I know what to say. Inasmuch as we need room for holy anger, there should be more room for grace and compassion. I mean, if that wasn't the case then none of us would be saved. I'm not here to pass judgement on Pst. Tim, but I'm just here to pray that the Lord guide us both into His will. It's the easiest to sit and point fingers and be mad and outraged, but it's even more difficult to ponder and think about our own shortfalls. I'm very far from where God intends for me, and that's the way it would have been my whole life if He didn't offer Himself up. And because He did, I can look on people with love, compassion, and empathy. Get angry, not with self-righteous anger that bears no fruit, but with holy anger. But don't let your anger outweigh your love and compassion. Look on and keep praying. Everyone of us has fallen short, and it's important not to look at someone else and think, "I'd never do/say something like this, and as a result I'm in a better position than this person", because it's not true. I could sit here and be outraged, but I won't. I'll just look to the Lord to pour out more mercy and wisdom to our hearts. Personally, I get where he was going with the sermon. And it might be to reach a certain niche audience whose experiences may be different than ours. But looking from my human lens, I feel outraged. But from a better lens, I don't see the need to point enraged fingers and rebuke and call out, but the need to pray for wisdom and grace.

What most people think is obscene I call normal. … I’m sorry to disappoint, I’ve always talked like this. 23:00 the Lord said your language is bait for the people I want to reach…. I just wanted to throw this out there. Just because somebody sometimes sounds like they know what they're talking about biblically, does not make them 'definitely grounded' on God's Word. Who knows the Bible better than you? The devil, and he knows how to twist it juuuuuust enough for it to make it past your guards. And who appears as an angel of light? The devil! Please be very careful with what you allow into your ears. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15; ¹³For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. ¹⁴And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. ¹⁵Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works. 2 Timothy 4:3-4; ³For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; ⁴and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 2 Peter 2:1-3; ¹But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. ²And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. ³By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber. 1 Timothy 6:3-5; ³If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, ⁴he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, ⁵useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself. Jude 1:4; ⁴For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 16:17-18; ¹⁷Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. ¹⁸For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple. Need I go on? There are learned atheists in pulpits. Please be careful. This assistant pastor is a wolf in sheep's clothing, and that automatically makes me question the lead pastor. One thing is obvious; if you seek Jesus, steer clear of this church and others like it.

@@christianhayter You don't consider it sacrifice to give up 33 years of utter glory to live in the dust and poverty of the ancient world? To be hated by those in power and rejected by the very people you came to save? To be brutally murdered by your own creations, experiencing one of the most horrid methods of execution ever devised, and to suffer the wrath of God against THEIR sin while they hurl insults at you? None of that is a sacrifice? Seriously?

@@AdianBlack Did you know that EVERY DAY, 25,000 under-five-year-olds die in Africa, from malnutrition, disease and dysentery....suffering every day of their short miserable lives And they don't come back from the death to enjoy eternal feasts (JC even had some on earth a la bible) So I'm sorry, but a man who could enjoy 33 years of life (allegedly) ...and who is still living today (allegedly).....doesn't cut it for me whatsoever In a meaningful sacrifice the dude would be dead. Not wandering around in the clouds again. It's total BS

One thing I have noticed with these modern “pastors” is that they try to do the work of the Holy Spirit instead of allowing God to move and have His way in the hearts of the congregation.

First day of a new church, saw the pastor use a chainsaw on stage. We ended up going to that church for about six years, and watched their livestreams during the Pandemic. Even one or two after we moved away. I will say, the pastor calmed down with age. And I do remember the point he was trying to make. He went at a log with a handsaw first and then with the chainsaw to illustrate how we need to rely on God, as the things in our lives which seem impossible on our own are easy for God.
@MatthewMurraycogswoth Жыл бұрын
Understandable, but I don't consider it a 1 to 1. Cause while using a chainsaw on stage might be unusual and maybe even concerning for some, a flashy method of communication doesn't on its own dishonor God. But this and the easter service are both examples of using flashy methods of communication in a way that comprimises the gospel and sanctity of the church.

@@MatthewMurraycogswoth , yeah, I imagine we wouldn't have gone to that church again if the pastor had said this.

The stage was controlling him.. he forgot about the gospel and gave more attention to what the crowd wanted. That was very disrespectful. You can't compare Jesus, the Saviour to a sinful person.
@NeoSelah Жыл бұрын
What I’ve noticed about this is that they have no oil so they need hype-men for saying the most elementary things. I call it the “amen circle”. They could literally say “cheese booty” on stage and the congregation would be like “YESSSSS MMMMMMM SO GOOOODDDDD AMENMNNNN” it’s cultish
