Hi Michael, I have your wonderful book and have been using your methods described therein to try to better understand the way Lauritz Melchior breathed and how he attached/linked his breath to his diaphragm/point of appoggio and sang. I've watched many videos on KZbin to evaluate what he does. He loved to grab the lapel of his jacket, perhaps to help him better breathe down into his back/lower ribs. "Resisting the collapse"of the expansion in the back while singing is something that I have found some success with. A voice teacher of mine attended one of Melchior's masterclasses way back in the day and he wanted the singers to feel like they were keeping a coin between their gluteal muscles as they sang. He also seems to be moving his hip bone slightly forward to add stability to his support. I've sung Siegmund, Parsifal, Lohengrin, Tristan and other big roles but I feel like I could have had a much easier time with them had I known about you beforehand. Or clarifying what it was that Melchior was doing. Thoughts? Thank you for sharing your vast knowledge with us Michael. I have learned a lot from your videos and your book and it has really helped my singing.

Hello Michael, I'm always so happy to see notifications of when you upload a new video, thank you so much. I also bought your book a while ago. When you inhale, and you say hold the breath, does that mean squeezing or sitting down (internally) on the breath, like if you were underwater and slowly letting go? I have done it this way and found it better if I breathe deeply and slowly relax with no tension and ease out. Thank you.

running long range is good also for breath capacity and it is the axact natural way of breathing for singing !! you breath in the lower back to increase breath capacity.....

Maestro could you please confirm if P is a good instigator for a Spinto kind of voice. This technique you demonstrate is incredible. I refused to believe I was Spinto... but this worked for me better than any other technique. I blow half ny breath out and the sustain in my voice is incredible because it seems to take the pressure off my heavy voice. However the method i use to blow out excess is "Pah" with a strong P sound before aspiration. Is this ok?

My hardest thing to do is breathe into my lower back. There isn’t lungs in my lower back. Do you mean breathe into the lower rib cage?

Thankyou for this video mr trimble, one thing i must say though, you preach chi/ki (from spiritualism) as though it were fact, its actually a religion, we christians believe it is a lie the devil told to replace god, as you mentioned you believe ‘energy/chi/ki’ is what makes your heart beat and what makes trees grow. We christians believe god does those things. The bible says that jesus told a fig tree to bear no more fruit, and it withered and died... where was the chi/ki/energy in that? Yoga has roots in the occult, im aware that all these great singers you mentioned were/are into it but i just cant help try to show my own version of love to such a great man on youtube.. take it or leave it i just had to share my own knowledge! Ive seen christians cast out cancer and other various diseases so its all very real to me
