Most former QBs give praises to Brock. They seem to understand the position more and know how to appreciate what Purdy brings to the table. I guess it is smart to agree with them.

I think Vick made a great point when he said about how he wished he would trust his receivers more by giving them the opportunity to make plays happen verses trying to become that game changer and fail. Maybe that’s what Cam was referring to by becoming that decision maker in the moment. However, just as Vick had mentioned, he wished he would have done that less but really pays no attention to the “game changer” or “game manager” status.

Game managers have low production and relatively good efficiency. Brock is having a statistically great season. If you're second in passing yards and 1st in passing TDs then you're not a game manager. The term game manager doesn't apply to QBs leading production.

Kyle Shanahan, playbook and scheme is difficult. You have to be a smart quarterback and be able to make those throws. He had a little playbook for Jimmy Garoppolo cause Jimmy Garoppolo couldn’t make those throws. He’s opened up the playbook for Brock Purdy cause Brock Purdy can make those throws and he’s showing it all year, and since his first day he came into the league.

A good game manager goes through reads and throws to an open player or to the check down. Brock does so much more. He throws guys open. He throws with anticipation. He pushes the ball downfield. He kills blitzing defenses. He scrambles and makes off schedule plays. Enough said?

To me it felt like Cam was confusing the ability to turn into a running back and get that first down or TD yourself with being a game changer.

Brock is a game changing game managing dude that has been playing better than all qb's this yr

How can cam newton be a game changer if he didn’t dive on the fumble that would’ve changed the game 💯

Part of what makes Purdy great is his understanding of offense, his ability to read, react and consistently find the open man on time. Part two is that he consistently puts the ball in a place where the receiver can catch in stride or catch away from the defender. He rarely makes mistakes. The game changers can make great plays with their arms or legs that Purdy can't, but they also make mistakes that Purdy doesn't, whether simply missing the open man or turning the ball over going for the hero play.

Here the thing, you can be a game changer by finding a way to pick up that first down and move the sticks and keep the drive going. Purdy makes great throws in huge moments of the game that are what lead to the touchdown that maybe was open, but never would have happened had Purdy not done what he did. BUT because it wasn’t the crazy athletic highlight TYPE of play most people, critics and analysts included never see it. The people who are watching Brock every week keep trying to tell you about it but in this KZbin Highlighs era they dismiss it. PURDY’S going to get his respect. He’s just to good not to. He’s going to be around for a very long time. We’ll wait.

It takes maturity to accept your mistakes. I'm slightly shocked by Vick's take about managing the game. The fact that a supreme athlete like Vick compliments game managers, and wishes he used their strategies, will help the next generation of superstars appreciate the fundamentals of their craft. Great, great stuff.

First time watching your channel. I love this conversation you and Michael Vick had. Great channel. I've been a 49er fan forever, and loved the Joe Montana days. Watching Purdy play reminds me of Joe, because of his field vision and fast release, and the right choices he is making.

Well said y’all. You can attack the opinion but don’t discredit the man that carried a Panthers team with Ron Fivera at HC and no weapons outside of Olsen (dope defense tho). Cam earned MVP twice over.

I think a lot of QB's who had to sacrifice their bodies to gain enough of an advantage to beat defenses get salty when small, less athletic guys do it so easily with their reads and throws alone. I get it but reality is reality, nobody in the league want's those guys taking LBers head on getting hurt and destroying their bodies, they want guys who can go the distance. Also, I think Newton still thinks he should be in the league and probably thinks he could do way better if in Purdy's situation; news flash, he couldn't in a million years, he could never make the reads fast enough or accurate enough...

Love this conversation, especially from two dudes who were game changers in their time. I also know they both took a lot of hits and didn't get to play as long as they could have. There's a time and place to be a game changer, but you also have to be good at managing the game because it's about more than you putting on a cape and being a superhero all the time. But when it's your moment to go save the day, you gotta know you're that guy.
