T Bone was one of my top picks when I saw it was on the release list! Great record and it sounds incredible.

Small additions to VU: 1. Lou Reed left the band about 3 months before the release of Loaded. So it wasn't the album's lack of success that was to blame for his departure, but rather the final mix. This mix was criticized by Reed. 2. Although Tucker is mentioned on the cover, she does not appear on the album because she was pregnant at the time. Drumming was primarily done by bassist Doug Yule, sound engineer Adrian Barber, session musician Tommy Castanero and Yule's brother Billy. 3. My humble opinion: When Cale left the band in 1968, VU lost its experimental vibe. In 1970 - partly because Tucker didn't play on the album - they were just a regular rock band and no longer VU. Reed probably knew that too.

Hello Michael! Great video! Since I am from Canada and I ordered another title from the Atlantic 75 Series that has not been released yet, I have to wait for that particular title is released before I get my copy of The Velvet Underground Loaded. Sucks to be me I suppose. Anyhow I always enjoy your videos.

Great video! Love Mingus and that album. I recently posted my 4th video and it was about my journey into jazz (which I got into late) and the first Jazz album I bought was a Mingus. Cheers

I love the look of these covers! Interesting fact about The Velvet Underground cover art by Stanislaw Zagorski features a drawing of the entrance to the Times Square-42nd Street subway station, with the misspelling of "downtown" as "dowtown"

Doug Yule did not left the band after this album. Maureen, Sterling Morrison, and Doug went on to tour the album and then they all left and Doug Yule recorded the last VU album on his own, Squeeze, which is very different but tbh it's pretty good. Dug never released any more music after it unfortunately.

T Bone Walker was an originator. Before Berry. My grandma suggested I learn to play guitar like T Bone, and my dad gave me one of his albums. That was in the 60's. I did not understand it back then. I was young musically, and my teacher had difficulty showing it to me. T Bone did the splits and played behind his head. A showman with a band.

The VU was the one I had to have to compare to my US original. It sounds great but need to do the official compare still!

VU Loaded was a blind purchase for me in the early 90's. I got lucky that day finding the two MC5 studio records too all NM. The 75 is very nice. It's apparent Chad took great care with this one.

At 3:49 he mentions Moe Tucker's drumming. She didn't actually play on Loaded (was having a baby). Is credited but that isn't Moe's drumming on the record.

Well, you made be buy Loaded. I was trying to cut down my record purchases but.....

Mo Tucker did not play drums on Loaded. She became pregnant before the sessions and could not participate. She was replaced by Doug Yule,Doug’s brother Billy Yule and a drummer named Tony Castanaro who all shared drumming duties on the record.

My white label promo of Loaded won easily in a shootout between it and the new 45, but I still really enjoyed the Acouctic Sounds version and finding a clean white label promo stereo is not cheap, not nearly as rare as a mono but still not easlily obtainable, also Doug Yule sings a lot more on the album than most people probably realize, it's him on lead vocals on "Who Loves the Sun", "New Age", and "Sweet Nuthin'".

Very very tempted by Loaded here Michael. I'm curious if you have heard the newly released MoFi of Lou Reed's Berlin? I'd be interested in your thoughts on that one. Also, and my apologies if you've already answered this question - but will you be adding your voice to the Doors L.A Woman UHQR reviews? I've been waiting to hear your opinion on that. As always, great content - thanks and keep up the good work!

@@Michael45RPM If you like that album I do recommend it. It's been on repeated play here the last few days. I think MoFi did a very good job indeed. Looking forward to the L.A Woman review. I'll keep an eye out!

Sweet Jane is the first song I learned on guitar. An incredible guitar riff and quite special mix of acoustic and electric guitar sound together with cool lyrics and singing. There was a lot of tension between the band members to get the production finally done 😮. I think, Lou did not like it, because it sounded too much stones-ish. The sound is good on the 75, but honestly it is not the best audio production, and the 75 is just a tad better than my mid 70ties record. Personally this is an iconic record for me, because I learned guitar as a teenager by this record. I heard this one quite a lot 😅 in my life.

Michael, i don't think you commented on the sound of the original Loaded. Did you think it falls far short of the 45rpm reissue? I ask because I have an original and I'm wondering whether it's worth getting the new one.

Maureen is not on LOADED, at all (her name is in the credits out of politeness). Doug and Billy Yule switched on that drum kit.

@@Michael45RPM It's not rational! My favorite quote of the philosopher Hegel (Hey! He's German!) "The true is the whole" Every aspect of a record (applies to books, movies, graphic design) has to be integrated. The music, the label, the record jacket material (which is why I appreciate your comments on this so much) and album art are all one unit working as a whole. I take records as they were originally presented with two sides and not four. It is the kind of neurotic detail only a record collector could appreciate! Obviously a personal choice and a silly one at that!. Also I ... I don't want to get up and change the record! 🙂
