Love how the cabinets are all the way to the ceiling,no DUST buildup,nice I have always wandered why carpenters short change home owners. I think it looks so cheap and not thought through,or no money,or not caring what they produce. NICE-BEAUTIFUL WORK,you should be PROUD.
@theresabu30002 ай бұрын
It does make more sense, without shadows there, the room seems more spacious I think. It is more difficult though - the ceiling has to be pretty straight, and you can't use pre-made cabinets.

It’s got to be a relief to be wrapping this up with the baby on the way! The cabinets are beautiful. Michael- pick up a few feather boards to fit onto your router table. Downward and inward pressure really reduce the chatter when using those cove profile bits and help preventing the cut from wandering with the density of the wood grain especially on white oak.

Glad to have found the channel, it's fun to see how you're slowly transforming and upgrading things around the home. Been following since the days of re-doing the studio and part of the workshop and I think I'll be there for the long haul! This year, I've done some baby steps in my own home improvements, redone one of the wardrobe's shelves. Using something a bit higher quality than pressed wood and being actually cut to fully fit the venting so that the full back of it is supported. It's pretty amazing what a difference it makes compared with the bowing mess that used to hold up, if barely some of our winter gear! And congrats to you and Ashley, best wishes for a healthy little bundle of joy!

I'm a bit late, so sorry if this has been asked and answered, but with your doors being solid wood in white oak, what do you expect the expansion/contraction with kitchen humidity (near the sink, over a cooktop boiling water, etc.) to be, and how will that affect your door gaps? This, after all, is why frame and panel doors were originally invented.
@flatlander5232 ай бұрын
Congratulations on the coming baby. They are so neat. You do such beautiful woodwork. You might check you Origin dust extraction, it shouldn't be spitting out that much dust. Check the little box up front too. On the burning you might try setting up a +0.015 offset until you get done with the rough cutting. Then on the final cut, remove set the offset to 0.0 and it will give a really clean cut and take off the burning(or should). Also slowing down the cutter speed some might help.
@MESTER472 ай бұрын
since I got there with watching the video, I was using the hinge holes will larger screws to attach cabinets to each other or the additional covering panels, that's how I was working in Romania. And I live in Seattle, never visited the Rockler shop, one day for that as well and congrats for the baby, we have a 7 months old baby boy, life changing experience, but it's great.

The fit and finish of these cabinets is just spot-on, and you made some really good choices to show off that perfectly uniform reveal all the way around each door. Nobody but another woodworker will ever notice, but you'll know! Minor design feedback on your commemorative logo: the upper white line from the floor design makes the text read "ALMI FAB".

This kitchen is truly beautifully crafted. It fits with the home, it has interest and depth from your details which most kitchens today never do, and the color and texture are so warm and clean. I hope you'll continue to slowly make more furnishings that fit with the style of the house and have just as much personality as that kitchen. It's so clearly a labor of love, and your kiddo will be so lucky to grow up in a house built with such care. Perhaps a high chair that suits the peninsula would be a good next step, so baby can safely be with you in the space?

On the note of new designs, it could bw really cool to incorporate existing designs into the new ones. The idea that came to mind was the "patterned plywood" inner lining of the hat or whatever else really. But what could also be cool is the 40s kitchen floor design spaced out in the inner lining, same way it was in the kitchen

What if you continued the decorative grooves that go down the cabinet also in the valance where they touch? Is that a nice or a too much? Or a round over to match your lower cabinet edge where the horizontal groove meets the end of your cabinet across from the oven?

Thanks for this series! Valences are such an easy idea to control the glare from the LEDs, yet I didn't think of it when installing a light strip on my desk. It's been annoying me since then, and I'm gonna go grab a strip of wood to fix that later today.

It's funny you're uploading this video now announcing the kitchen is done as I'm basically starting the process doing the same thing here 😂 Just bought my first house and I've ripped everything out floor to ceiling to remodel the entire kitchen. Still at the bare concrete floor with holes in the wall everywhere stage but I hope I can achieve even a fraction of what you have done here. I can't say there's no inspiration from your kitchen build going into mine (the slide-out pantry and under-cabinet LEDs just to name a couple). Congrats on the future Almling too 😁
