Thank you for introducing this to me! I’ve been diligently watching all of your videos since I saw your appearance on Audio University, and it has immensely helped my capabilities as a fairly inexperienced sound engineer with a Marine Corps band. Gone are the days of “eh, well just put the speakers there I suppose.”

You are very welcome! I'm glad Kyle's channel was able to make the introduction. I remember this moment clearly for myself as well, but once you're introduced to these basic concepts of speaker coverage, it's hard to "unsee" it!

Thank you for this introduction. It is a great tool for visualizing and planning. The problem with this software is that lots of manufacturers only provide a limited number of GLL files of their products. Especially when you are - like me - working with speakers on sticks you see not too many speakers in the database or offered by the manufacturers. Even the high quality series of large manufacturers (i.e. Electrovoice ETX) is not available.
@MichaelCurtisAudio Жыл бұрын
You're very welcome! And yes, it is frustrating that many manufacturers have not done their due diligence and make sure all of their products are available. I frequently end up having to pick an equivalent/proxy model from another company. Gets the job done.
@vlchalwell Жыл бұрын
How do you determine that they are equivalent what specs or parameters are you using to determine that? Thanks for the vids! @@MichaelCurtisAudio

Very nice introduction. You mentioned in one of your videos that there is a way to make a csv, txt or osm-file (and based on that gll-file) from a frequency diagram of a loudspeaker. I often use loudspeakers from unknown manufacturers and then it would be handy if I didn't have to measure them myself, but could roughly use the data from the diagrams to then perform simulations. Best regards

Every single demo seems to use wall mounted speakers. I don't see any examples using ceiling mounted omni speakers. Can you point to a tutorial on using ceiling speakers. Even though I import QSC ceiling *.gll speakers the model still assumes they are directional. Great videos. Thank you.

Hi Michael. I enjoy watching your great videos. I must admit that some of the info, I find it difficult to understand. I have a question about Ease or Mapp and that is: How would you go about testing audio setups where there are issues with ceiling types, pillars obstruction and ceiling hight differences. On one location, although the ceiling was of average heigh, it has 20 inset square bays in it, each of the bays having 5 different surfaces, 4 sides sloping at about 45 degrees and a flat central section (x 20). On another venue I occasionally set up for has several concrete pillars along the depth at 1/3 of the room width and the ceiling height on one side of these pillars is much lower than the main room. Maybe a video about such obstructions would be useful information to people in such predicament. keep up the good work!

Fantastic to get me started. Any advice on adding a balcony audience zone. Fairly simple church layout with a main downstairs area 20mx13.5m, then an upstairs balcony of 3.8mx13.5m. I tend to use the mini line array type speakers + subs. Using my "rough guess" approach to speaker placement, I would normally add a delayed small pair of 4x3" columns at balcony height to fill. What approach would you take for looking at that?
@MichaelCurtisAudio2 жыл бұрын
Great question! You can adjust the Z axis (height) of any audience zone. So, draw the rectangle shape of your balcony, then add in your Z dimension of each to get the slope right.

Hey Michael, I know it's been a while since you've made this video, but I'm slowly getting around to understanding what tuning a system is all about and so I have one question. I use Alto Powered Speakers. As far as I've noticed, they don't have GLL files. Could I just use a different speaker that has a similar coverage and SPL?
@RobertKidd-xn9vl3 ай бұрын
Ive notived you use one center line array instead of LR config. Is this something you prefer with line arrays or just so happen your examples are narrow widths. Are you concerned with a mono setup mixing band? Thanks

Is there a way to indicate walls, and if so will reflections be... well reflected in the prediction, or does this solely simulate an 'open-air' environment?
@MichaelCurtisAudio9 ай бұрын
It's only open-air with Focus 3. The "full" version of EASE can simulate reflections.

I have JBL Control 29AV speaker, and I used JBL's file to import it into Ease but it fails every time. Maybe replace the speaker with something similar? The spread is 85Vx110H and I have been unsuccessful finding a speaker similar spread. Any recommendations?

That .gll file is only licensed for the full, paid version of EASE, unfortunately.

Trying to import a QSC kw181 .gll file but it says it’s not licensed for the current version of the app, contact the supplier. Any advice?
@MichaelCurtisAudio2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I've run into the same issue, but there's a workaround. I have no idea why they haven't fixed this with the KW181 being such a popular product. The workaround is to use the QSC KLA12 GLL file, set the box count to 1, then select the configuration as the KLA181 (which is just the KW181 with flyware). Then you can place that wherever.

Is there any software where we can use customised speakers to use n get on map ?
@MichaelCurtisAudio2 жыл бұрын
As far as I know with EASE you have to pay to license your speakers with them, then it's free to the end user. I don't know any DIY solutions.
