Good one! You probably noticed that this rhythm comes directly from a candomble rhythm called IJEXA which is played on 3 congas (atabaques). It would be great if you could sometimes make a tutorial on Cabula (or samba do caboclo), a great rhythm played also on 3 congas as in the cuban rumba. If you need links for it don't hesitate to contact me. Salve

I've seen your video and it looks great!! I didn't know this rhythm. You should learn it to me or make a nice lesson about it!!

HI Michael, I learnt about this stuff while I was in Bahia last year. I've got some videos of myself playing with the Ballet Folklorical of Salvador. Have a look at this video for "Cabila" or "Cabula".

neydoxosse (on youtube) and his video "cabula com ney de oxosse & alunos" is the one to watch. It will give you an overview of the rhythm. clavebrasil (on youtube) will give you the patterns. This rhythm is very popular in brasil (bahia) and the main patterrn is also played on timbau by bands such as timblada. You will notice that in brasil the drum that improvises isn't the quinto (lé) like in cuba but the low drum (Rum). Well, hope it helps and that you can make a tutorial out of this.

teacher, this is the same rhythm of brazilian Ijexá? I know that both are from the Ioruba tribe from Nigeria, right? But what are the differences betwen the patterns? (and thanks again for the class ;)
@MichaeldeMiranda4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is the same as Ijexá. Actually Ijexá is the name of the rhythm and Afoxé is often the name of the groups that play Ijexá.

That was great! Can the bells be mounted or are they are handheld only?
@MichaeldeMiranda8 жыл бұрын
_DAMIAN_ Thank you, Damian. I think, you can find mountable agogos now, but in Brasil they play it mostly handhold.
