To be honest, I think the lyrics in this song are very underrated. It speaks about people starting rumors with no apparent reason, just for the sake of starting something. It shows the pressure that scrutiny can lay upon you. ''You're a vegetable'' because they'll get you and eat you with their stories and rumours. In the end, what matters is that you know yourself (''I know I am someone, and let the truth unfurl'') and that's enough for you to believe in yourself (''yes I believe in me, so you believe in you''). There are people that say that the lyrics in this song are non-sensical and/or silly, I find them to be very insightful and deep tbh. This song is one of my favourite Michael Jackson songs ever.

@@unearine6183 I don't know if I would take it as compliment, but rather as a warning. When he says ''you're a vegetable'' it means that the people around you, making up stories, will ''eat you alive'', they will bring you down.

That makes sense, and this song connects to Billie Jean, He first describes Billie as a girl that spends most of her time gossiping, spreading truths and lies to her convinience, then he talks about a girl who is having a babie while having no way to feed the baby thus needing to lie and cheat to feed the baby, this isnt a stable solution so the baby is "Slowly dying". This "girl" is definetly Billie as she meets all of the qualities as described in this song and in "Billie Jean" Man micheal must have had a big trauma about a girl like that

Heaven or hell (yea yea) everyone gonna choose (yea yea) We`re stuck in the middle (yea yea) and the devil`s lurking. (yea yea) I took my soul to the doctor with a fever but nothing to be found By the time it hit the street They said I had a “breakdown” Someone always trying to start the sinful journey talking - stealing - lying Saying I just want to be something. So you want to be choosing something. You got to be choosing something. So you want to be choosing something. You got to be choosing something. Heaven or hell (yea yea) everyone gonna choose (yea yea) We`re stuck in the middle (yea yea) and the devil`s lurking. (yea yea) We´re love to pretend that we`re good When we`re always up to no good. No evil can hurt me now for GOD keeps me safe Yes I believe in Him for I walk on the road The only road, which HE give. We`re gonna say: our souls are freed from lies.
