One of the most beautiful swordtails. Not too colorful but the dorsal fin and pattern of the males are amazing...naturally, wild looking fish. Thanks for the video. Robert

The bottle trap should work well on snails too. I hadn’t thought to try catching fry.
@MichaelJensensAquarium3 ай бұрын
Yeah. Work perfect for snails as well. Cheers, Michael 🙂

They should... and they are prolific breeders. Cheers, Michael 🙂

Nice, Nezzy swords are very beautiful fish. I have used the plastic bottle traps for years to primarily trap out of my pond. Recently, I have noticed they have not been as effective. I think they have just become calcified and algae covered and perhaps look like a trap to the fish. Your fresh, clear bottle traps inspired me to put two and two together. Lol, I think I just need to make new ones!!!
@MichaelJensensAquarium3 ай бұрын
😀Yes, the traps get less effective if they become visible, so you need to make a new trap. I like your content, and subbed. Cheers, Michael 🙂

@@MichaelJensensAquarium Thanks Michael. Thanks for subbing too, I haven't posted for a while as I have been really busy with work/family/fish club, but I have taken a lot of video, just need some time to put together a few videos!

I only have a young pair, but the female has dropped her first few babies recently. I bought them on a whim, but I am very much in love with them - I think they are my favourite Xiphophorus, and that is actually saying something! Thank you for sharing this beauty. Question: when I search this species, a lot of the pictures show them with some black markings as well as the stripes. Do you know if that is just a variant (mine look like yours) or can they be mistaken for another small X. species?
@MichaelJensensAquarium3 ай бұрын
Also for sure my favourite Xiphophorus at the moment. I have seen those other variations of this fish. I guess there must be slight difference i appearance in strains from different isolated localities. See the same in a lot of killifish, where the same species varies considerably in appearance from one location to another. Cheers, Michael 🙂

@@MichaelJensensAquarium Thanks, Michael, it's what I thought, but honestly I am not as strong in fish species as I used to be, and I am terribly out of date, so I appreciate having true hobby veterans such as you to ask. Appreciated!

Hey Michael! Love your videos and love the quality. I have been following for a very good while and I have been meaning to ask you: What soil do you use for your plants or do you just use gravel? Do you feed them root tabs.
@MichaelJensensAquarium3 ай бұрын
Hi. Thanks for your feedback and support. I don't use dirt underlay or fancy soil, just good old faschion fish poo and detritus. I use a few root tabs for the amazon swords and a few other plants and use liquid fertilizer. But mostly i try to balance the amount of plants versus fish. Cheers, Michael :0)
